Bussard collectors (also known as ramscoop or Bussard ramscoop) are large electromagnetic devices located at the front of the warp drive nacelles of some Federation starships.
They create a large electromagnetic field used to attract interstellar gases that could be used as fuel by the ship's fusion reactors. The typical gas collected is hydrogen (particularly used for fuel replenishment), but they can be reconfigured to collect sirillium and plasma particles. These gases are then compressed and stored into holding tanks.
Bussard collectors can also be reconfigured for other uses, such as expelling gases.
