History

Contact with outside forces was not welcome and the Bishtar people remained isolated and content in their worship of the 'High Ones' for centuries as political and religious in-fighting threatened to wipe the Bishtar people out. It was only during the Second and Third Romulan Wars that the Bishtar were thrust into the maelstrom of intergalactic politics, finding their system constantly under threat from the Romulan Star Empire. Following the most recent war, the Bishtar people extended the hand of peace to the Federation. Some time after, a Ferengi Daimon named Whodat tried to harvest materials from the Bishtavrath sun, nearly causing its destruction. The Bishtar system and its people were saved by the actions of Commander Paul Braggins and the crew of USS Ticonderoga, who destroyed Whodat's fleet and chased the rogue Daimon from the system. Bishtavrath once again considered joining the Federation, but was dissuaded and instead became a founding member of what would become a relatively prosperous yet minor military and trade alliance in the unaffiliated portions of the Glintara sector.

Religion

The Bishtar people worship beings they call the 'High Ones'. The High Ones are believed to live inside the Bishtar sun, and the rising of the sun each morning is still seen as a blessing from the gods to the Bishtar people. Over the centuries different interpretations of religious teachings have caused civil wars that threatened to plunge the Bishtar people into extinction, though recent struggles against Romulan imperialism have united the people into a more liberal attitude.

Military and Technology

The Bishtar military have been compared to the ancient orders of Holy Knights on Earth, and this similarity is evident in the name of the Bishtar armed forces when translated from Bishtar to English. Bishtar military technology is considered to be roughly equal to that of the Federation or Romulan Empire, though Bishtar propulsion systems seem to be based upon some form of local wormhole generation. Unfortunately, no Federation engineers have been able to get close enough to inspect this technology.
