Adenosine is a chemical found in human cells.
- There are three different forms: adenosine, adenosine monophosphate (AMP), and adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
- This chemical blocks electrical signals in the heart that cause irregular heart rhythms.
In ancient times (read: 20th and 21st centuries), Adenosine was used as an injectable medicine for paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (a fast, irregular heartbeat), as well as to treat irregular heartbeats also known as an "arrhythmia."
