  • November 12 - The main immigration port-of-entry in New York Harbor at "Ellis Island" closes permanently.
    It was the busiest immigrant inspection and processing station in the United States.
    From 1892 to 1954, nearly 12 million immigrants arrived and were processed at this location.


  • November 30 - In Sylacauga, Alabama, an 8.5 pound piece of the "Hodges" meteorite crashes through a roof, hitting a woman napping in her living room.
    She is badly bruised, and is the first documented case of an object from outer space hitting a person.


  • The first organ transplants are done, in both Boston and Paris.
