|History=Drew grew up in the coastal town of Port Issac in Cornwall. It was a sleepy little town nestled in the English countryside where the most exciting thing to usually happen was when the catch of the day came in. Drew had an unremarkable childhood, it was normal until the fateful day when he was 13 that his best friend Steve had almost died. It had begun like any other day for Drew he had gotten up and had breakfast with his Mum and Dad and went to meet Steve to go out on a small sail boat. It was long after they had left the protective cliff walls of the harbor that a rogue wave had hit their vessel and it capsized. Drew was treading water and couldn't see Steve, he was trapped somewhere underneath the boat. Luckily a nearby fishing boat noticed the commotion and came to their aid.

The next year Drew had taken a keen interest in the sciences and his father had introduced him to an old family friend who was a Chief Science Officer during the Borg invasion that resulted in the loss of Starbase 1. Drew was impressed with what this officer had done and wanted to join Starfleet as a result.

High school was tougher for Drew than for the other kids, his latent empathic abilities revealed itself during the onset of puberty and at first it was hard blocking out the emotions, his mother who was 1/2 Betazoid on her fathers side taught Drew meditation techniques on how to block out the emotions of others around him. He also found that with some effort he could communicate with others that had similar latent telepathic abilities/full telepathic abilities.

The rest of his time at high school proceeded without much incidence, Drew passed his A levels and was accepted into Star Fleet Academy. Drew made several new friends during his tenure at the Academy, one that particularly stood out to Drew was Elise Meridian. She was vision of lovely, wrapped in beautiful package. Elise was 2 years ahead of Drew in the Academy. While Drew was a fan of the general sciences, it was Elise who suggested that Drew might like to specialize in Astro-Physics.

Drew had graduated near the top of his class at the Academy and was assigned to the USS Intrepid for his first mission. It was a strange one for a Midshipman fresh out of the Academy, Drew had been assigned to a runabout to rescue the auxiliary craft of the Intrepid, The Thomas Jefferson. It was later revealed that it was all a holo-graphic simulation. Due to his bravery shown in the attempted rescue Drew was awarded a medal for his services.

His time on the Intrepid was short lived however he asked to be reassigned from the Intrepid due to differences in personal philosophies with his Commanding Officer. Star Fleet had granted Drew's request and assigned him to the USS Sheridan then under command of Commander Zan. It was also during this time that Drew was promoted to Ensign. The mission however did not go so well, Commander Zan was critically injured and Drew was on his 3rd Commanding Officer in as many missions, it was one Rear Admiral Jal who had decided to make the Sheridan her personal flagship during the relocation to Pioneer Station.

Drew's final mission aboard the Sheridan came with yet another Commanding Officer, Harrison Boislevesque it was a mission to Outpost 147 to deal with a fungal infestation that was assimilating the crew of the station. This however was to be Drew's final mission for quite sometime as he again requested transfer, this time it was to a Memory Planet for a desk job where he could pursue some research of his own. It was a year later when the call came in from Star Fleet Command looking for volunteers to what amounted to a suicide mission. Drew temporarily joined the crew of Star Fleet's newest vessel the USS Artemis for an attack on what was the Borg Megasphere. Most of the fleet was not as lucky as Drew was to make it out of there unscathed.

Following the MegaSphere battle, Drew was assigned to the USS Callisto as Chief Science Officer. It's maiden voyage was as part of the Pathfinder mission, to find out what became of the starship Voyager. Drew does not recollect much from that mission due to what was told to him by medical personal after the fact and reports that he had read. There was a problem exiting slipstream and the Callisto suffered extensive damage and a piece of the ship fell on Drew. There was no choice but for Sickbay to put him in a medically induced coma. Repairs were made to the Callisto's slipstream drive thanks to the Scott and they began the long journey home back to the Alpha Quadrant with their tail firmly tucked between their legs.

It took the better part of a year for Willard to recover at Starfleet Medical, the doctors and staff there noticed damage to the telepathic centers of Willard's brain, but they couldn't tell if it was due to psychic attack or the cranial trauma that landed him in the coma. The only definitive answer was that any attempt at using any latent empathic abilities would cause extreme debilitating migraines. During his recovery he had a report come across his personal plan that the Callisto was lost with all hands aboard with the exception of the two away teams during what turned out to be it's final mission.

When Drew was fully cleared to return to active duty seeing as how returning to the Callisto was no longer an option. Star Fleet had elected to assign him to a brand new Rhode Island class vessal, the USS Phillidelphia. He wasn't entirely confident about his ability to run a science department again, but Willard was willing to rise to the occasion.
