|History=Val was born to the prominent Vulcan scientist Syvok Val and his Wife Nabiki Val. Nabiki was part of the Science delegation assigned to Vulcan by Starfleet and the Federation, which is where they met. Their pairing was not common, but understandable. Nabiki hailed from Kyoto, Japan, which is where she gave birth to her only son, Sturnok Val. Val spent the first seven years of his life on Earth, in Japan. Here under his father's tutelage his eager mind began to grow. His mother noticed his aptitude for science and math, but it was philosophy and ancient tactics that interested young Val the most. His mother understood a strong body complimented a strong mind, and had him begin training the traditional Japanese martial arts: Akido and Bushido, as well as the Korean form of Hopkido. Val was a fast learner and became one of the youngest to reach the rank of Fifth Dan in all three, though later years he rose to Ninth Dan in Bushido. At the age of six he began training in the Ancient Vulcan forms of combat and use of weaponry, though today the style was more ritualistic, Val still took to it seriously. His father Also introduced him to D'Pahq, A Klingon associate who owed his life to Syvok. D'pahq began training young Val in Klingon methods of combat and strategy. Val received his trade mark scar during Bat'leth training Val was not paying attention and became over confident and cocky. D'Pahq took this opportunity to teach young Val a lesson. Much to his parent's dismay, Val declined a dermal regenerator and kept the scar. Val's only real friend, besides his instructors, was a young man named Kaim Kurogmai. Kaim was the son of Nabiki's dearest friend from childhood. In much the sense their mothers were sisters, so too, did the sons form the bond of brother hood. Kaim's family traveled with Val when their mothers were reassigned. For the next seven years Val spent his time on the U.S.S. Newton: GSC-901, At Age 13 he began expressing an interest in music, and decided to learn the violin. When Val was 17 he put in his application to Starfleet Academy, following in his parents footsteps. Val had deliberated on what field to enter service in, but the choice was clear: he would join the ranks of security. With his sharp mind and martial arts training it was the logical choice, though part of it was also open rebellion against his father who wished his son to follow in his footsteps. While at the Academy, Val became fast friends with Alexander Talion. Alex's introverted manner was a stark contrast to Val's more eccentric behaviors but the two hit it off well. As fate would have it he would continue on with his best friend as both had been assigned to the U.S.S. Chin'toka. Val was assigned as one of the new Security Officers under the Command of the recently promoted Captain Gagarin.
