The two have been close friends since grade school, and continue to maintain contact despite Saul's joining Starfleet and Hadrian's joining the Magna Romani military.|History=<h3>Early Life</h3>Saul was born on the Tyrol family estate in the countryside outside of Rome on Magna Roma. His mother was half-Betazoid, giving Saul (and all of his siblings) innate empathic abilities. He grew up with his five younger siblings, and excelled in school, progressing rapidly through the grades. At age 14 he was enrolled in an Honors Program and was taking undergraduate level courses in lieu of the standard academic fare. He graduated school at age 16 with full honors, and declared his adulthood, a practice still followed in many rural area on Magna Roma. He married his girlfriend, Aurora Faustina Adriana (who was two years older), the following summer, on June 4. Upon returning from their honeymoon, Saul and his wife learned that his mother was pregnant once more, quite unexpectedly. Saul's youngest brother was born the following spring, though Saul did not get to meet his new brother until the end of his first year of university.

Saul enrolled at the University of Rome, and graduated at age 19 with a BA in Astronomy and Ancient History. He applied to the PhD program in Astronomy at the University of Cambridge on Earth. His application was accepted, though he was required to complete their MSci degree first. During that time he decided that Starfleet offered the greatest opportunities for his field of study. He applied to Starfleet Academy, and was accepted. After completing his first two years at the Academy, he began his research for his PhD in Astronomy, choosing a joint Cambridge-Starfleet project. Saul graduated from the Academy at age 24, earning his MS in Astronomy and a BS in Computer Science. He also completed work on his doctoral research the following year, while on leave pending his first assignment. He earned his PhD in Astronomy from the University of Cambridge on Stardate 20906.12. 

 At the beginning of his third year at the Academy, Saul's daughter, Anastasia, was born, on October 6. Juggling his Academy courses, thesis research, and his young family was mentally and physically exhausting. Fortunately for both Saul and Aurora, his sister Christiana moved to San Francisco to help with the newborn Anastasia. Her help was much appreciated, and both Saul and Aurora thanked her for putting her life on hold for them. Christiana laughed it off, claiming that she'd need to get away from their newest little brother, Gallus, and they're parents. As it turned out, the family back home had been even less prepared for new addition to the family than Saul and Aurora had been. Christiana moved back to Magna Roma after Saul graduated from the Academy.
