__NOEDITSECTION__

The Tesnians are a warp-capable humanoid species native to the Alpha Quadrant.

Physiology
Unlike many humanoid species, Tesnians are unable to survive on a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere alone. Though they are able to breathe in such environments, they require at least six hours of exposure to boron gas a day in order to remain healthy.

Society
Tesnians are a fully warp-capable society. The tours of their starships tend to be extremely long ones, with many Tesnian crews spending years on board their ships without returning to their homeworld. They tend to consider their ships to be their homes since they spend all their time there, carrying around all their belongings and building their own communities on board.

History and Politics
The Tesnian species is native to the planet Tesnia in the Alpha Quadrant. At some point before the 22nd century, they developed warp technology and began spending increasing amounts of their time in space.

In 2151, a Tesnian starship encountered the Enterprise, NX-01 while passing an asteroid field. It is unclear if this meeting represented first contact between the Tesnians and Humans or if the two species were already on friendly terms at this point. However, it seems likely that contact between them had been, at least, limited prior to this encounter since the Tesnian language was unfamiliar to the Enterprise crew.

Upon attempting to rendezvous with the Enterprise, the Tesnian ship suffered extensive systems malfunctions and crashed into the side of an asteroid. The reasons behind the crash were initially unclear. Though there was no scientific evidence to support their existence at the time, the crash, along with damage to the Enterprise itself and one of its shuttlepods, was ultimately blamed on collisions with microsingularities.

During the crash, the Enterprise was able to rescue 34 members of the Tesnian crew, all of whom were greatly distressed at the loss of the ship they considered their home. Provided with access to boron gas while on board, the survivors were safely delivered back to Tesnia.
