Although raised on Earth and not Betazed, he was raised with a full and proper education in the control of his natural abilities. Although he is trained in areas of psychology and minored in exopsychology, he is not trained as a therapist or in the practice of psychiatry, so he is not trained to act as a ship’s counselor.
While working with Kristina Dys, a fellow science officer, they fell in love. They were briefly married and had only a few months together as husband and wife before she left on a secret mission involving the attack on the Borg Mega-sphere. That battle ended on or about 22003.06, during which Alex suffered a minor injury while trying to thwart the efforts of Borg that had infiltrated the ship. Officially, she is listed as MIA, because her remains were never recovered, but she is presumed KIA.
His current psychological profile states that although he experienced emotional trauma in his youth, from the loss of his twin sister, he is fit for duty. He exhibits above average intelligence with mildly introverted tendencies and some difficulty in social situations.
