|History=
Born on Earth to an exasperatingly normal, and very boring family, Black wanted nothing more than to just get off planet and away from the extremely parochial world she spent her formative years in. Her parents had been society drop-outs, she'd always assumed, and had settled down in a town and surrounding area that had no intention of entering the twenty-fifth century any time soon, and almost had the feel of somewhere that had grudgingly only entered each preceding century when it had been forced to. The town being twinned with the fictional city of Ankh-Morpork didn't exactly endear her much.
After a successful return to Starbase Alpha however, while relaxing on the promenade, Black was recognised by the daughter of Ambassador Whitten, and without provocation, attacked by the woman. This lead to a stay in the medical facility for Black. Though this attack was unprovoked, Black chose to not press charges. Not long after being discharged, she received orders to transfer to the USS Aquila. At this time, Black was unaware that almost all of the Philadelphia's crew had been reassigned to the vessel, and was convinced it was because of the incident, and Starfleet just wanting to get her off station and out of the system to prevent any other incidents from occurring.

The Aquila was to deliver passengers to Deep Space Nine. These passengers then proceeded through the wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant. Next, the Aquila was sent a few days later to bring them back after discovering survivors from the combined Cardassian / Romulan taskforce that had attacked the homeworld of the Dominion almost twenty years ago. Upon returning back to DS9, Black unfortunately had a rather large bar bill to cover at Quark's that she had accrued during the festive period, so she entered into an agreement with the management that whenever she was aboard the station she was to work at least three shifts as a dabogirl until the tab was cleared.

She was also given a sideways promotion by Starfleet to the Operations Manager role of the ship as well as the administrative head of the Science Department before she and the majority of the Aquila's crew were transferred back to the USS Philadelphia. Once they'd shipped out again, they were informed they would be part of a joint mission with the USS Artemis. It was also at this time she discovered that her new department consisted of only one other extremely junior officer. As it turned out, their initial role in the joint mission was to simply taxi a small group of Artemis officers to their mission objective and return to another location to await further orders. However, things did not go to plan.

[DETAILS REDACTED]

Black was reinstated as Chief Tactical Officer, and the Philadelphia was tasked with locating and boarding a Cardassian freighter, which had entered Federation space on its way back to Cardassian space containing Federation citizens being held against their will. They were successful in their goal. The citizens were rescued, but at great loss. The Philadelphia was badly damaged, possibly irredeemably. And the crew were taken into custody by the taskforce sent to recover and apprehend them before being returned to DS9 to await their fates...
