Now often described as a solution looking for a problem, the USS Typhon was the first and ultimately only vessel in a line of ships that was developed as a combat support platform after Admiral Braggins' experiments with the USS Ticonderoga proved successful. Despite the demilitarisation of Star Fleet, and the mothballing of all "warships", the Typhon retains extremely niche applications within Star Fleet. Sometimes classified as a mobile base, this relatively small starship carries two wings of fighters and is generally meant to serve as a command and control hub for an area of space beyond the normal range of a starbase, operating in support of other small starships.
