A neutron star is the collapsed core of a massive star, after a supernova.

Some neutron stars, called pulsars, emit beams of electromagnetic radiation from their poles.


Being one of the smallest and densest class of stellar objects, neutron stars have a radius of around
10 kilometers (6.2 mi) and a mass of about 1.4 solar masses.

Once formed, these stars no longer actively generate heat, and cool over time.
Neutron stars are very hot, with a typical surface temperature of around 600000 K.
