He loved causing trouble, and bringing home bad grades was none of his concern. He was more curious about the way things worked, and loved taking apart anything he could get his hands on. The things Jackson took apart didn't always get to be re-assembled, and his parents were forever replicating new things.

|History=Jackson was born and raised in the city of Philadelphia. Once his two little sisters were born, he quickly grew tired of them following him around, and so became the best hide-and-seek champion of East Philly. He loved causing trouble, and bringing home bad grades was none of his concern. He was more curious about the way things worked, and loved taking apart anything he could get his hands on. The things Jackson took apart didn't always get to be re-assembled, and his parents were forever replicating new things.
Jackson's first job was to fetch items for a merchant ship Captain that would stop in Philadelphia from time to time. He would at first do these errands for a small compensation, and then the rewards grew bigger: tours of the cargo ship "Labrador". On one of these tours, an 18-year-old Jackson managed to escape the crewman's watchful eye, and he stowed away on the ship for a run. He was found in a small sub-section of Engineering, taking apart and "improving" one of the ship's air ducts. Instead of punishing him and barring him from the ship, the Captain at the time instead offered him a job.
Jackson was granted leave from that cargo ship when his middle sister, Maggie, was injured during her tenure at Starfleet Academy. To help her spirits during her recovery, he promised to bring her a puppy next time he came across a breeder. Though by the time he returned to his cargo vessel, he had missed a total of three runs, the ship was in need of a First Officer, the previous one having been killed during a particularly dangerous run. He was made First Officer of the Labrador, with the assumption that he would become Captain when the current one eventually retired, or was killed.
