Zaira was born and raised on Betazed where she enjoyed a happy and fun filled childhood especially when she got to visit Earth and spend time with her paternal Grandmother Alannah Morgan. The old woman would encourage and help the young Zaira when she struggled with both the Human and Betazoid sides of her, teaching her techniques to relax her which worked the majority of the time. Zaira loved these visits not only for the help her grandmother gave her which remained with her but also the delicious cakes and the stories she told which always cheered her up. Zaira loved these visits as that's where she also developed her love for reading and watching old Earth movies and she was absolutely devastated when her grandmother passed away when she was 10. The techniques that had been shown to her became more useful when she reached the age of 14 and developed mild empathic and telepathic abilities which she found difficult to control at first until she remembered those exercises and learnt to control them.
