The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) responded to the situation and unknowingly worsened the cultural contamination when the Mintakans observed their comings and goings. As a result, the previously discarded beliefs in supernatural beings began to resurface in the village most directly affected. This would eventually lead to their mistaking Jean-Luc Picard for the Overseer, one of their gods. To avert the revival of religion, Captain Picard abducted the local leader, Nuria, to give her a guided tour of the ship to explain that the beings they discovered are simply mortals with advanced technology.

In 2377, a ''Voyager'' shuttlecraft carrying Commander Chakotay and Seven of Nine accidentally crashed into the barrier. The two were marooned inside, but were able to neutralize the barrier with the help of the Ventu. However, the ''Voyager'' crew restored the barrier when it was feared that interaction with the [[Ledosian]]s would destroy the Ventu's way of life.

The Vhnori world is the site of many naturally-occurring subspace vacuoles, and these form the core of the Vhnori death tradition. They originally placed the bodies of the dead into these vacuoles believing that this would transport them to the Vhnori afterlife, called the Next Emanation.
Over time, this practice became combined with euthanasia. Vhnori citizens entered a device known as a cenotaph that killed them just before a vacuole opened.
Unknown to the Vhnori, the vacuoles actually led to a planet in the [[Delta Quadrant]]. On this planet, the bodies of their dead had been piling up for thousands of years, resulting in the only known concentration of element 247.
All this was accidentally discovered by Harry Kim of the USS Voyager when he was accidentally drawn through one of the vacuoles to the Vhnori homeworld in 2371. He returned using one of the cenotaphs, having seriously disturbed the Vhnori's faith. However, it was discovered that an unusual amount of neural energy existed in the planet's rings, perhaps implying that the Vhnori afterlife may not be completely without foundation.
