Gene splicing is a process in which the DNA of one organism is cut, and inserted into the gene(s) of another organism, for the purposes of medical modification.

In the early days of gene splicing, this medical procedure was used on single-celled organisms to help the production of products such as insulin.

Nowadays, it can also be used to genetically modify larger organisms, such as Humans or Vulcans, for the purpose of medical intervention.

In this way, it is considered a part of Genetic engineering, which commonly used this practice to correct genetic disorders.
