===Division (Tactical Unit)===
A Division is the smallest tactical unit used in Star Fleet, usually comprising of between two and four ships depending on size. For example, a Frigate or Destroyer division would likely contain four vessels, while a Heavy Cruiser division would contain only two. Divisions are almost always grouped together to form Flotillas or Squadrons, though some operate independently. A Division is commanded by the senior Commanding Officer, regardless of rank, and is generally seen as a lead-in to Squadron Command and eventual flag rank.
===Squadron/Flotilla===
A Flotilla is a group of between two and three Divisions of smaller vessels such as Frigates Squadrons or Destroyers for a specific purpose, such as patrol or convoy defence. Unlike Battle Groups, Flotillas are permanent organisations, and a vessel may be assigned one from the day it is commissioned to the day it is decommissioned or destroyed. A Flotilla is usually commanded by a senior Captain, often as a lead-in to flag rank. ===Squadron=== Squadrons are a small group of generally between two and four Divisions. A Cruiser Squadron would usually be made from two Cruiser Divisions, while a Destroyer Squadron Flotilla would be composed of three or four Destroyer or Frigate Divisions. Squadrons and Flotillas are permanent tactical administrative organisations, though are usually only deployed together during times of crisis. A Squadron or Flotilla is usually commanded by a Commodore or senior Captaindepending on size.
Star Fleet also organises small ships like their Starfighters or Attack Craft in Squadrons; each usually consisting of between six and twelve craft. An Attack Craft Squadron is usually commanded by a senior Lieutenant or Lieutenant Commander

====Carrier Group====
A Carrier Group is a form of Battle Group consisting of a number of ships formed around a single Federation-class Carrier. A typical Carrier Group would include a Carrier and a screen consisting of at least one Cruiser Squadron and one Destroyer Squadron.
