Ben Sisko joined Starfleet Academy in [[2350]], where he studied to be an Engineer. Shortly after graduating, he met his first wife Jennifer, and their son Jake was born soon after they were married. Receiving a posting as [[First Officer]] on the ‘‘USS Saratoga’’, the ship was called to assignment in [[2367]], where Jennifer died at the [https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Battle_of_Wolf_359 Battle of Wolf 359]. Devastated over the loss of his wife, Sisko came close to resigning from Starfleet.
