Dataport
A dataport is a device that allows a person to interface directly with a computer. Dataports also allow information to be transferred to or from a person's mind, including memories, which can then be stored in data crystals. A third capability of dataports is allowing two people to link minds; in that capacity they are used by net-girls, among others, who allow paid customers into their minds.
The typical dataport has three parts: one which is implanted behind the person's ear, one which gets attached to the implant, and one which attaches to the target computer. Although they are not illegal, they are frequently used by criminals to illegally bypass security programs. The drawback to using dataports is that certain security measures send energy surges back through the connection, damaging the user's nervous system. This is known as being "spiked".
