Personal History: Rachel was born on Vulcan to parents Laura and Wayne. Wayne had been assigned to a Star Fleet operation on Vulcan at the time, so Laura and Katya had gone with them rather than be far apart when the baby was due. Rachel had been an inquisitive youngster, always getting into trouble trying to figure out how things worked and why things were the way they were. She drove her parents crazy with the eternal questions of “Why?”
When it came to school, Rachel excelled. She was particularly fond of English class and was incredibly advanced for her age in spelling and vocabulary. As the years went on she found herself filling paper scribblers full of stories and adventures to far off worlds. Rachel had always preferred the traditional writing methods -- the tactile feel of the paper as the pen or pencil danced across the page -- over using a data slate or PADD.
At the beginning of her high school years, the family moved back to Earth when her father was offered a position at Star Fleet Academy. There her advanced placement English teacher suggested she join the school newspaper as a way to broaden her writing horizons. Here Rachel was able to combine her inquisitive nature with her passion for writing.
Rachel pursued a career in journalism by first getting a BA with Honours in Broadcast Communication from Simon Fraser University. She worked part time as a reporter for the local North American News office while she pursued her Masters in Journalism from Columbia University. Immediately upon graduation Rachel was given a position for the Federation News Network, working out of their Vulcan office. During this time Rachel met a young Vulcan man. They fell in love and got married, eventually having a daughter together. However things were not meant to be when tensions grew over how their daughter Sarah should be raised. Eventually the pair separated, though they are still on good terms with one another. Sarah lives with her mother on Earth, and frequently returns to Vulcan to visit her father.
With her hard work over the years, Rachel eventually worked her way up to become Managing Editor. At this point she took a short leave of absence to pursue her PhD in Journalism from the University of Cambridge. Rachel returned to the FNN and a few years later was promoted to Editor-In-Chief.

Personality: Rachel is a very friendly sort of person, one who people tend to find ease speaking to. She likes to treat her staff as friends but she can still crack the whip when work needs to be done and won’t hesitate to reprimand someone when they aren’t doing their job.
Sense of Humour: Tends to use sarcasm frequently, but couldn’t tell a joke to save her life.
Phobias: The thought of snakes sends chills down her spine.
Likes: Spending time with her daughter; writing fiction; old, hard cover books.
Dislikes: Unethical journalists who slander.
Bad Habits/Vices: Has a tendency to drink far too much cola, especially if she’s on a deadline.
