Component of a [[Bio-neural Circuitry|bio-neural computer system]] consisting of a flexible, liquid-tight package containing synthetic neural cells in a blue gelatinous organic medium with metal interfaces on both ends. The synthetic neural cells are capable of making billions of connections at once. Bio-neural gel packs are far faster than their predecessor, [[isolinear circuitry]].

These gel packs are so sophisticated, that a common replicator cannot create them. [[starship|Vessels]] must keep stores of spare gel packs in case a gel pack fails.

Like a living organism, bio-neural gel packs can be affected by viruses and infections. They are also susceptible to [[subnucleonic radiation]], which causes them to fail. This affects the efficiency and performance of the computer. In such cases, [[Star Fleet Corps of Engineers|Engineering]] and [[Star Fleet Medical Command|Medical]] must work together to diagnose the problem. The most common course of action is to superheat the vessel, and thus the circuitry, which will kill any bacteria or germs that have infected the systems.
