The "death chant" is a funeral ritual of the Bajoran people. It is an intensely personal rite, and is reportedly over two hours long.
Sometimes referred to as a dirge, this song/chant is done by one of Bajor faith, either individually or in a group, in the event of one's death.
Bajorans believe that any who do not have the death chant performed at their time of death do not go the Celestial Temple, and instead return as "borhyas" (ghosts), their soul unable to move on.
