The assistant chief Medical Officer (ACMO) is the primary assistant or backup to the Chief Medical Officer. The ACMO is analogous to the First Officer in that they are second-in-command of the Medical crew aboard a starship or starbase. In the chief Medical Officer's absence, the assistant chief Medical Officer would serve as the Medical crew's commanding officer.
