Brought up in a Star Fleet family but unlike other Star Fleet children he stayed at home on Earth with his grandparents on his father's side, since his mother's parents had died the year before his birth. Ryan's grandfather owned one of the biggest trading companies in the Federation, the Ryan Transport and Trading Corporation, known as the RTC to friends and foes a like. As a young teenager he spent many a summer working as an office boy in the RTC's headquarters on Earth, learning the ropes of the trading business. It was at that moment of his life that he received word of his father's decease. He had died in one of the last skirmishes of the General war. His mother's health deteriorated rapidly after that and she died a year later. Five years later Patrick was old enough to join the Star Fleet Marine Corps. During the initial interview it was spotted that he would be ideal command material. So he underwent the officer-training program and graduated top of his class. Patrick was then posted to the USS Dauntless as a Second Lieutenant, under the command of MCapt Hampson. Shortly after Hampson was transferred to Strategic Operations and Patrick got promoted to First Lieutenant and given command of Bravo Company under MCapt Banks. Six months later and he had a further promotion to MCapt. After a couple of months, MCapt Banks was seconded to Strategic Operations, leaving the position of MarCO empty. Commodore Thrawn asked Patrick to take the position, and so he has served as MarCO since then. His first mission that had him in command of the marine detachment was to the planet of Padar. During that mission a number of crewmen were taken hostage. Commodore Thrawn authorised the use of the marines in the extraction effort. During the storming of the building where the kidnappers were thought to be hiding. However they had booby trapped the building, rigging it to collapse. Unfortunately Patrick was nearly crushed to death when it did collapse. Due to fast response by Dauntless’ medical personnel, his life was sparred. After the recovery of the hostages, one of whom was Lt Telsia Shikozu, the Dauntless left the system and headed back to earth. During the shore leave, a number of crew headed for Risa to relax. Pat took the Spacewolf with him and spent most of his time with Telsia and her younger sister, Beka. The next mission had the marines performing a ground assault on Tansec, which was the base of operations for Orion pirates who had been raiding the system. After that mission Patrick was promoted to Major, and then the Dauntless was sailing into harms way again. This time to investigate an intermittent federation distress signal coming from a large nebula. Unfortunately it turned out to be a sentient being. During the course of that mission, Patrick’s arm was infected with a rare disease which basically meant that the cells in his arm started to die at a faster rate than they could be replaced by his body’s normal growth, which lead to his arm literally falling to pieces. Eventually they left the nebula and his arm, which had been amputated, was replaced with a temporary artificial arm while the medics grew him a new arm.
