She began her life a small village outside the capital because her father had been involved in politics for as long as she could remember. Her mother taught her many of the skills she relies on today, including how to take down an enemy. Rhian did everything with her mother, from washing the clothes to cooking, and especially the shopping. She loved to visit the market; there were so many types of goods in one small block. Blankets of all sorts of colors, jewelry, and such amazing food. It was here that Rhian met her best friend Nevala when she was two years old.
Rhian had wandered to the booth ahead of her mother. Colors of all sorts always made her forget what she was supposed to be doing. And there, another little girl was admiring the same blanket that had caught Rhian's eye. In the center of this blanket was a large rose. Even though their mothers could not describe the bond formed that day, something had sparked between the girls and they became inseparable.
Rhian did not like to talk about that day, and she still suffers from the occasional nightmare. While she had followed the traditional methods of mourning, including painting her best friend's name on her left bicep, she had a rose tattooed on her right bicep as the paint faded. The rose had always been the symbol of their friendship. Rhian was never quite the same without Nevala, never as happy but always on alert.
