The Galor class—named for a hooded warrior from Cardassian mythology—made up the bulk of the Cardassian fleet for over a century and despite their relatively small size compared to other races' capital ships have always been able to hold their own in battle.
Originally entering service in 2310, the Galor-class served widely in the Federation-Cardassian War and the later Dominion War. However by the early 2370s their top status in the Cardassian Fleet was being usurped by the newer, larger [[Keldon-Class Cruiser|Keldon class]]. The Keldon-class design builds directly on the Galor class space frame and technologies, so the two designs are linked in ways no other starship classes have been. Only the fact that the Keldon was more resource-intensive to build has allowed the Galor to retain its ubiquitous nature in the Cardassian fleet.
Despite the design now being well over a century old, the Cardassian Union continues to update and improve upon their design - much in the same way that [[Star Fleet]] continued to use Miranda-class vessels well over a century after their commissioning dates alongside . New Galors fresh are entering service from Cardassian Shipyards and shipyards alongside newer designs that are only now entering service, though these the new technologies and other modifications required extensive overhauls mean that dramatically increased the size of the vesselsnew Galors are larger than their Dominion War-era counterparts.
To counter shifts in technologies and strategies that the Union's military and technological levels simply cannot keep up with, Galors are often deployed in "Wolf Packs" of three vessels to ensure victory; the benefit of combined firepower and presenting multiple targets often enough to deter all but the most skilled attackers.
