A Division is the smallest tactical unit used in Star Fleet, usually comprising of between two and four ships depending on size. For example, a Frigate or Destroyer division would likely contain four vessels, while a Heavy Cruiser division would contain only two. Divisions are almost always grouped together to form Flotillas or Squadrons, though some operate independently. A Division is commanded by the senior Commanding Officer, regardless of rank, and is generally seen as a lead-in to Squadron Command and eventual flag rank.
===Squadron/Flotilla===
Squadrons or Flotillas are a small group of generally between two and four Divisions. A Cruiser Squadron would usually be made from two Cruiser Divisions, while a Destroyer Squadron Flotilla would be composed of three or four Destroyer or Frigate Divisions. Squadrons and Flotillas are permanent administrative organisations, though are usually only deployed together during times of crisis. A Squadron or Flotilla is usually commanded by a Commodore or senior Captain depending on size.
Star Fleet also organises small ships like their Starfighters or Attack Craft in Squadrons; each usually consisting of between six and twelve craft. An Attack Craft Squadron is usually commanded by a senior Lieutenant or Lieutenant Commander
