|History=Gloria’s father, Mass, bought the woman who was to be her mother from a member of the Orion Syndicate; it had been part of a wonderfully profitable deal.

Mass was in the salvage business, an upper level manager of the company’s main warehouses on Ferenginar, mostly small stuff, nothing bigger than shuttles, and a vast majority of it was un-cataloged; i.e., a profit opportunity. Working on a holiday one late night, Mass came across one of the seemingly boring plastisteel containers that usually held rather useless junk, worth some small amount for recycling, but his lobes began to tingle in excitement. This particular warehouse structure was decades old and in a relative state of disrepair. Opening the crate, he discovered a small cache of exotic rifles (which were scavenged during or just after the Dominion/Federation war).

Mass through his contacts, found a buyer from the Orion Syndicate and set up an exchange. An Orion named Teerv was most impressed with the weapons, he was also traveling with a gorgeous human woman that appeared to be his slave. Something about the slave Valeen warmed his lobes beyond typical reason. Mass discovered through negotiations that the Orion had procured the Valeen from a pre-industrialized (let alone pre-warp) human populated planet outside of the prying eyes of the Federation. Teerv and his group would on occasion take the prettiest young women and either keep them or sell them. It was all very hush-hush.

Mass was smitten with Valeen, but he was a wise enough Ferengi not to sell the farm for the woman. It was all well and good to get latinum for the discovered weapons. Besides, Teerv said the woman wasn’t for sale for any amount latinum, he had enough money as it was. Just shy of completing the deal, Mass brought out some additional rifles, these being rather special...Jem’Hadar make, the real thing and in perfect working order. Teerv’s eyes widened in desire. A short haggle later and the Orion offered a pretty some of latinum. However, Mass wanted Valeen...in addition to the stated bars. Teerv was thinking it over; and to help persuade the Orion further, Mass offered a handful Romulan disrupter pistols as a friendly gesture. ‘Done’.

The baby (Gloria, a.k.a. Dis) was born nine months later. Mass had failed to care as the gender of the child was found out to be a girl. He would have preferred that the pregnancy be terminated, but Valeen wanted it so he had acquiesced. To make things worse, the girl-child was ungainly even for a Ferengi. ‘What a disappointment.’ Mass said, and from then on ignored his hybrid daughter. Valeen seemed to care for the child however, and Mass’ work kept him busy so he accepted the small monetary burden and the greater ego deflating burden. He would try for a son next, and he’d use all of science and medical techniques to guarantee it! He was successful in this endeavor and Valeen managed to birth two sons in the next few years.

At two years old little Dis could speak in full sentences and had shown that she was very bright. She took no notice that she had worn no clothing for her short life. It was this time when Zreg would occasionally visit, offering a tidbits about various deals and economic trends, especially with the Federation being the focal point in subsequent wars. War was good for business. However at Zreg’s more advanced age, and having lost his wife of many years to an illness, and his own children ignoring him, he became rather fond of the little chatter box. As Mass never let the child out of the domicile, Zreg thought it wouldn’t hurt to communicate with her. She often asked about this rule or that, why was it okay to profit from family, why is gold-pressed latinum used for money and so on.

As Dis’ child years came and went, she had learned to spot market forces and Zreg encouraged her to offer her advice. It was apparent to Zreg, that Mass was losing a great deal of latinum having ignored his child, though it was happily his gain; and Zreg was okay with that being Dis’ and his secret. The girl was so starved for fatherly-like attention, that she offered Zreg her insights for next to no profit; warmth, and a small amount of kindness was her currency.

Dis had little contact with her brothers, Mass deciding it best for his sons to get the best schooling away from home and the ungainliness of his daughter. Valeen certainly didn’t seem to mind, her focus and love seemed destined only for the daughter.

Zreg insisted that Dis never utter the R of A out loud; because if discovered, both would be prosecuted severely. So Dis committed a fair number of the Rules to memory; the ones Zreg had mentioned or the ones she had heard her father say.

Dis was also curious about more than latinum; there was a whole galaxy out there, she was curious about the ‘how and why’ things were. Atoms and gravity, molecules (organic and inorganic), subspace communication and starships. When her father was away on business, Dis downloaded what she could from the open Ferengi Library, she would have her education.

In her 15th year, she reached puberty, and in a three month span grew nearly a foot and towered over her Ferengi friend Zreg. She had blossomed into a young woman, her features morphed from a plain more-or-less Ferengi female look, to a beautiful hybrid, that took the best features from both sets of genes. Her adult teeth grew in straight and perfect, though the combination gave her mouth the appearance of the Terran mythological beast; vampire. Her canines were fairly long, though her lips hid them well enough, and her front teeth were pointed only at very oblique angles.

At age 18, accepted into Star Fleet Academy, first try. Curriculum of mostly general science, partly so that she would have an overall understanding of ‘everything’ and secondly, she has interests in virtually everything related to the Sciences.

Graduated Academy at age 22, Midshipman Gloria Dys assigned to USS Copernicus as Science Officer. En route to the Copernicus, a temporal event occurred (through some fault of Dys’ own), where Mid Dys, essentially for 29 pieces of gold pressed latinum, bought/purchased her future self to be in the present (and her present self was transferred 8 years in the future) from a Ferengi businessman; who had come across an ancient, alien artifact that could maneuver a person through time. Apparently, the switch of Dys’ present and future selves had expended the artifact’s power and now is an inert curio piece.

Dys’ future self was First Officer of the Copernicus under Captain Jane Fields, and she has full memory of her career aboard the Cop (albeit an alternate time-line). In Federation Space present, the future Dys has been integrated into the present time-line and Star Fleet records show that Dys has indeed been assigned to the Copernicus as First Officer, replacing the re-assigned Commander Areack Jackson.

Dys, 31 years old from her perspective, was thrown into an immediate rescue/First Contact scenario aboard the Copernicus; where after resolving the solid light beings' contact, Captain Elisa Godard gave Dys temporary command of the Copernicus. After four months of what became a First Contact mission, and the Copernicus damaged by a much more powerful Romulan battle cruiser, the 'magnanimous' Romulan commander spared the Cop and she returned to starbase, with Dys feeling impotent from the encounter. Regrettably, there had been loss of life, though the outcome could have been the destruction of the entire ship, so Dys was thankful for that. Dys also surrendered herself to the charms of her then Acting FO, LCdr Lee Ander, and fell in love with him. Unbeknown to her until recently, Ander had also fallen in love with Dys, and had murdered a Romulan spy, to protect her from an evil memory extraction device that if used, would bore into her skull and brain, extract her memories and kill her. Ander was reassigned to another ship and their parting was a sour event.

Dys had been friends, colleagues, and lover, in her future time-line with Fields, Powl and Brooks. To cope with the doubles of her friends, Dys viewed the current time-line people as younger siblings of their future selves. In particular, Dys felt a responsibility to guide Fields towards Command; to give the Security Officer a nudge to fulfill her potential of becoming a Captain one day. Dys while accepting her life in 'the past', felt that she didn't truly belong, and had a subtle desire to return to her 'original' time-line.

Age 32: The rescue mission to the planet Tekna (a sentient entity as discovered after a truly horrific loss of life had occurred), had a profound and examination of inner self affect upon Dys; such that she for the first time since her temporal transition, used her unique knowledge of the future and made an investment that was wildly profitable (with all proceeds going to the Tekna relief fund), all against Star Fleet Temporal Directives. Fortunately for Dys, her superiors looked the other way in this one instance, though her actions have fueled Romulan and Cardassian spies that Commander Gloria Dys is indeed from the future, and they wish to extract her knowledge of it.

At Starbase Alpha (the Copernicus being shuffled amongst a fleet reorg), Dys' younger self plus her future's John Zenteal (a crazed version of the Copernicus' Security Officer) arrived in the current time-line. So now there existed two Gloria Dyses, separated by 8 years of age and experiences. The younger Dys, agreed to change her name to Alora, a name of suggested by the future Zenteal (the name of the future Brooks' girl friend that had he had left Dys for). Johnny Z, as future Zenteal was called, was placed in the brig and more or less forgotten.

On an emergency mission that affected the core Federation worlds of Vulcan, Andor and Tellar, an opportunity occurred where the elder Dys could return to her future time-line...home. However, something happened (presumably something terrible, horrible) while she was in her correct time-line; and Commander Gloria was sent back in a specially designed, temporal (and transwarp) capable shuttle, the 'H.G. Wells'. Dys however, ended up with substantial memory loss (she didn't know who she was) upon an Orion Syndicate world (depraved even by their standards) called Helven VI. Brutalized and worse, Dys was rescued by a small undercover Copernicus party led by LCdr Jane Fields. Dys continues to recover (mentally) from her ordeal, but the memories from her short visit to her future-past appear to be gone (apparently mind-wiped as if performed by a low skilled Vulcan-mind meld). Gloria Dys does feel though, at home, in the existing time-line.

On Stardate 21009.30, Gloria Dys' 'future-past' had finally caught up with her. Dys was relieved of her Copernicus FO position and was remanded indefinitely to Starbase Alpha for 'Examinations'.
