The Bishtar people are native to the Bishtavrath system.
Appearance
Humanoid in appearance, they are universally tall and slender in appearance with olive skin and fair hair. Typical eye colour ranges from deep purple to emerald green.
History
Contact with outside forces was not welcome and the Bishtar people remained isolated and content in their worship of the 'High Ones' for centuries as political and religious in-fighting threatened to wipe the Bishtar people out. It was only during the Second and Third Romulan Wars that the Bishtar were thrust into the maelstrom of intergalactic politics, finding their system constantly under threat from the Romulan Star Empire. Following the most recent war, the Bishtar people extended the hand of peace to the Federation. Some time after, a Ferengi Daimon named Whodat tried to harvest materials from the Bishtavrath sun, nearly causing its destruction. The Bishtar system and its people were saved by the actions of Commander Paul Braggins and the crew of USS Ticonderoga, who destroyed Whodat's fleet and chased the rogue Daimon from the system. Bishtavrath once again considered joining the Federation, but was dissuaded and instead became a founding member of what would become a relatively prosperous yet minor military and trade alliance in the unaffiliated portions of the Glintara sector.

Society
Family is very important to the Bishtar, with family elders ruling the family until the eldest child can take over. Marriages are usually arranged between families to boost their financial or public status. Affairs are surprisingly common, yet are generally considered to be part of married life; so long as all children born are conceived by the married couple.
Religion
A deeply religious and formerly xenophobic people, the Bishtar are slow to accept outsiders and have been known to be deeply intolerant of the differences of others at times. However since their system was saved by outsiders, this attitude has begun to improve somewhat; the Bishtar have learned to keep their opinions about outsiders to themselves regardless of their personal opinions.
