The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-C) was an Ambassador Class starship, and the fourth Federation starship to carry the name Enterprise.
Enterprise-C was commanded by Captain Rachel Garrett, the first female Captain of the Enterprise line.
Narendra III and Destruction
In 2344, the Enterprise-C responded to a distress call from the Klingon outpost on Narendra III, which was under attack by the Romulans. When the Enterprise-C arrived at the outpost, she was attacked by four Romulan Warbirds.
While few details are known about the battle, it was known across the quadrant that the Enterprise-C was destroyed with the presumed loss of all hands. In the aftermath of the battle, the Klingons were deeply impressed by the act of self-sacrifice by a Star Fleet crew to protect a Klingon outpost. In Klingon culture, this manner of death is one of the utmost honor, an ideology that Klingons hold above all others. The Enterprise-C's legacy became the reinforcement of the relations between the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets, which lead to a close alliance of peace.
Creation of an Alternate History
During the Battle of Narendra III, the Enterprise-C was transported to the year 2366, twenty-two years into their future, due to a temporal rift created by the combination of weapons fire. The disappearance of the Enterprise-C from the battle, and into the rift, created an alternate timeline. In this alternate timeline, the outpost at Narendra III had been completely destroyed, and the Federations and the Klingons were at war.
The Enterprise-C had taken severe damage to her warp nacelles and external hull, with 125 crew members surviving. Her successor, the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-D, encountered the Enterprise-C emerging from the rift and assisted in repairing her. Both ships soon came under attack from the Klingons, and Captain Garrett was subsequently killed. The last surviving senior officer of the Enterprise-C, Lt. Richard Castillo, assumed command of the ship and, under the cover of the Enterprise-D, took her back into the rift to return to 2344 and the battle of Narendra III to restore the timeline.
