Biobed uses

Examination table

In its simplest form, a biobed can be used an a place for a patient to sit or lay down during an examination.

It is often that the viewing screen is active during an exam, in order to show a patient's vital signs.

Surgical

At least one biobed is always set up for surgical purposes. There are various hookups for surgical tools, and is equipped with a large sensor cluster that covers a portion of the patient.
Surgical beds have a larger display in order to show more information on the patient. Additionally, these beds typically have force field capabilities, in order to either restrain or quarantine the patient.

ICU/Recovery

On larger ships, there are usually a few designated beds for the purposes of Intensive Care or Recovery.

Those with life-threatening illnesses, in recovery from major surgery, or sometimes in preparation for surgery make use of these beds.

Stasis units

The patient can be revived once more capable help arrived, the starship reached a medical starbase, or in some cases, when a crisis situation was resolved.

OB/GYN

On occasion, a biobed can be converted for obstetrics purposes. With a reclining setting, the bed can be put into use when the birth-giver of a species goes into labor.
