- June 30 – An explosion, believed to have been caused by the air burst of a large meteoroid or comet fragment, occurs in Russia.
- The explosion would later be known as the "Tunguska Event."
- August 8 – Wilbur Wright flies in France for the first time, demonstrating true controlled powered flight to Europe.
- September 17 – Thomas Selfridge becomes the first person to die in an airplane crash.
- The pilot, Orville Wright, is severely injured in the crash, but recovers.
