He developed an interest in computer science and originally wanted to recreate his sister, but realized that was impossible. He eventually settled for trying to create a friend. That program became his assistant. His obsession has made him very good in his field and his skills translated well into areas that Starfleet finds very useful. His development of androids is a different approach. Where Data was a sentient machine, he has developed the mind and body separately. His assistant can be holographic, or can download into an android chassis that allows it to be mobile in areas without holographic projectors. He based it on a pleasure model from the entertainment industry and modified it for more memory and processing capacity using smaller versions of the neural gel pack technology so that it could run the program independently of ship power for a limited time. The program was based on an EMH interface that then had the matrix and template rewritten for his needs. Originally named Synthia, she prefers to be called Cindy and it is debatable if she is sentient or not, though her primary program to be his assistant and to help him by anticipating his needs as her main function. She helped him get through the academy but only through her organizational skills and keeping his notes, assignments and schedule in order for him. He would sometimes be lost without her help. | He developed an interest in computer science and originally wanted to recreate his sister, but realized that was impossible. Although raised on Earth and not Betazed, he was raised with a full and proper education in the control of his natural abilities. Although he is trained in areas of psychology and minored in exopsychology, he is not trained as a therapist or in the practice of psychiatry, so he is not trained to act as a ship’s counselor. | Although raised on Earth and not Betazed, he was raised with a full and proper education in the control of his natural abilities. + | While working with Kristina Dys, a fellow science officer, they fell in love. They were briefly married and had only a few months together as husband and wife before she left on a secret mission involving the attack on the Borg Mega-sphere. That battle ended on or about 22003.06, during which Alex suffered a minor injury while trying to thwart the efforts of Borg that had infiltrated the ship. Officially, she is listed as MIA, because her remains were never recovered, but she is presumed KIA.

+ | Alex has been allowed to pursue his research while raising his daughter. Star Fleet was willing to accomodate his requests so that he might not resign his commission. It has not been easy raising his daughter as a single parent, but he has had help from his friends. For his own safety and that of his family, he tends to live in an isolated and secret location most of the time, though he does speaking engagements and has recently agreed to help out by taking the position of head of Science on the Aquila. He has always tried to promote science in Star Fleet and thought it would be a good experience for his daughter to encounter more people, broadening her horizons and giving her a more grounded perspective as she grows up.

His current psychological profile states that although he experienced emotional trauma in his youth, from the loss of his twin sister, he is fit for duty. He exhibits above average intelligence with mildly introverted tendencies and some difficulty in social situations. Boarderline OCD work habits lend to his innovative strides in his preferred fields of study. | His current psychological profile states that although he experienced emotional trauma in his youth, from the loss of his twin sister, he is fit for duty. Personal History
His mother’s love for science as a xenobiologist and his father’s work as an analyst with Starfleet Intelligence combined into his interests in computing and finding answers. He loves solving puzzles. Often smarter than kids his age and growing up in a very privileged life style made for few friends as a child. After his sister died in an accident, he always felt very alone.
While working with Kristina Dys, a fellow science officer, they fell in love.
Alex has been allowed to pursue his research while raising his daughter.
