Stardate 20211.16 Cdr Rayne Narret, Commanding Officer, USS Yoritomo reporting.

Arriving back at Starbase One, after an exhausting mission with the USS Dauntless, I was looking forward to some well deserved rest and relaxation. However, this was not to be. Not ten minutes after I set foot on the base, I was called to see the Second Fleet Commander, RAdm Gorrahn. Captain Thrawn had also been called to a meeting with the First Fleet Commander, RAdm Benestad. This peaked my curiosity somewhat, and I found myself wondering if we were in line for some sort of punishment, due to our actions on our last mission, where we had utilized "unorthodox" methods, resulting in the deaths of over 100,000 Romulan soldiers. However, that was not the case, and the news that I received was even more surprising. I had been selected to command Star Fleet's newest Destroyer. Not just any Destroyer though. By some small twist of fate, they had decided to name this Destroyer the USS Yoritomo. A name which held a lot of memories for me, as I had served as the Chief Engineering Officer aboard the original Yoritomo, and witnessed her demise at the hands of the Romulans. Happy with the news, I intended on heading to the Thirsty Fish Tavern, to celebrate my new position with friends. However, that also was not to be. Soon after receiving the news, the alert klaxons sounded, and the station came under heavy attack by a fleet of Romulan vessels, which had somehow managed to sneak into the system undetected. The Starbase was severely damaged, and the ships in Space dock, including the Yoritomo, couldn't even join the fight as the mechanism of the large doors in Space Dock Three had been severely damaged, trapping them inside. Just as I thought that things couldn't get any worse, they did. Thousands of voices acting as one came across all the Base Communications channels. Voices I had never heard before, but yet knew all too well. Voices that could instill fear in the hearts of even the most hardened veterans: The Borg.

Successfully routing our Romulan Attackers, they quickly concentrated on making short work of our own forces, intent on succeeding where they had failed in the past. I quickly found myself caught up in a whirlwind of events. FAdm Beckett, the Commander in Chief, authorized, and implemented the Armageddon Directive, and I found myself caught up in a transporter beam, mere moments away from Assimilation, as Borg Drones began beaming onto the Starbase.

After ordering my Chief Tactical Officer to destroy the Space Dock Doors with a spread of Torpedoes, The Yoritomo quickly plotted a course away from the Sol System. The First Round it seemed, had gone to the Borg.

Downloading my orders, as per the Armageddon Directive, I learned that the Yoritomo was to proceed to the Badlands, in an effort to make alliances with any independent ships and bases which might still have been in operation there. Knowing that the Badlands was a good hiding place for criminals and pirates, and that at one time it had been home to a resistance organization known as the Maquis, I ordered that a course be plotted, and we got underway.

We had been scarcely two days away from the Sol System, when we intercepted a distress call from an unidentified vessel. Knowing that the Armageddon Directive superseded any and all other orders including General Order 6, I still found myself unable to ignore the distress call, and ordered an intercept course.

When we arrived, we found a Star Fleet Vessel - A frigate, adrift. Most of her main systems were offline, and she had minimal life support. I ordered an away team to be sent over, to determine if the ship was space worthy. Perhaps she would be the first addition to the fleet that would eventually help in the retaking of Sol.

I was shocked by the Away teams reports. The ship, which we subsequently learned was the USS Tunis, Captain Simon Mallory Commanding, having been attacked by the Borg, was currently carrying a complement of Romulan Officers, apparently part of Ambassador Spocks Unificationist movement, who were seeking asylum, having helped the crew to make repairs to their vessel. Captain Mallory, who up until now had been unaware of the Armageddon Directive, beamed aboard the Yoritomo, where I brought him up to speed on current events, and granted temporary asylum to our Romulan Guests, pending approval from higher authorities when we returned to Federation Space. Things however, were about to get worse.

I was just concluding our meeting, when I was informed of an Orion Vessel, decloaking off our Port Bow. Captain Mallory, amid the confusion, was beamed away, and the Orion Vessel, without warning, opened fire on both Star Fleet Vessels, draining the Yoritomos shields, and doing substantial damage to the Tunis.

Giving the order to return fire, I was relieved to learn that Captain Mallory had been beamed back to his own vessel, which was now fully operational, and we began to co-ordinate our attacks on the Pirate Ship, which was still under the impression that the Tunis was dead in space. We caused significant damage to their impulse engines, weapons systems, and their warp core, which breached just as they attempted to go to warp, killing all aboard.

Upon recommendation from Captain Mallory, who has informed me that the Badlands are deserted, we are now enroute to the Borders of the Mirak Star League, where it is hoped we will find some, sympathetic to our cause.

Stardate 20305.09

Stardate 20305.09 Commander Joseph Valiant, First Officer USS Titan/Commanding Officer USS Yoritomo recording

Returning to Star Base One the USS Titan docked for repairs and supplies. While at Star Base One I had the distinct honor of attending and being a user in a wedding for a dear friend Dan Wueste and his bride Samantha Aster.

Shortly after the wedding, the Star Base was suddenly and without warning attacked by a fleet of Romulan ships. The Romulan’s where in the middle of their assault when a transwarp conduit opened and a fleet of Borg ships came through, no doubt to launch an attack against, and to destroy/assimilate the Federation. The specific targets didn’t matter to the Borg. Romulan, Star Base One, Mars, Earth, they were all considered equal to the them, the Romulan ships, and Federation ships and stations were nothing but mere recourses there only to be consumed and the people on each ship or station nothing but potential drones to be added to their collective.

Being the First Officer of the USS Titan I rushed to the ship's bridge to do my duties. During the course of the battle I found out none of the ships docked at Star Base One were unable to leave because the docking bay doors were jammed shut. Thanks to the impatience of the former Captain of the Yoritomo, who fired torpedoes and blew the door open, we were able to escape.

Fleeing from the Sol System, FAdm Beckett initiated the Armageddon Directive, which ordered all Federation ships to flee from the Sol system and to find new allies or technology that would help defeat the Borg. Under the directive each ship received different orders to which regions to go. The Titan's orders were to go to the Tholians and request their assistance.

Once we reached the Tholian boarder we were contacted by several patrols ships and ordered to stand down, and not to enter their space. Captain Otlan the CO of the Titan stated his reasons for being there, and the Tholians told the Titan to stay put and wait for a representative to arrive.

After a short time the representative arrived and agreed to meet with Captain Otlan if he were to beam on board. Most of the senior staff protested, including myself but under these extreme circumstances it had to be done.

Captain Otlan was about to board the Tholian ship, when 2 Federation Starships dropped out of warp. The Tholians effectively demonstrated their full-time readiness, when they immediately attacked the two ships. Captain Otlan quickly explained the situation and the Tholians backed down but that still didn’t resolve a major problem. During the attack the USS Tunis was destroyed and the Commanding Officer of the Yoritomo was killed and the First Officer severely wounded. Captain Otlan and I both knew that the Yoritomo without a Command staff would make it impossible for the ship to continue its mission. Due to this reason, and being the ranking officer on site, Captain Otlan ordered me to take Command of the USS Yoritomo.

I beamed over to the USS Yoritomo quickly got to work, I had it noted in the ships log that I was now the Commanding officers, and I ordered the ship to head away from the Tholian boarder to conduct repairs. During this time I called a staff meeting and placed Lt. Lopu as my First Officer. Also during this time down for repairs we conducted a memorial service for the former Captain, Captain Rayne.

After conducting sufficient repairs and the memorial service for Captain Rayne, I ordered the ship to the Mirak boarder to continue its mission.

Once there we were met by patrols ships, and after I stated my case to them they went and got their leader, Baron Goldentail. Twenty-Four hours later the Baron arrived, and I invited him along with his senior staff over to the Yoritomo for dinner with myself and my senior staff, hoping it would allow us to get off on the right foot.

After the dinner, which I think went well for both sides, the Baron wanted to talk to me alone. Once in my office I attempted to convince the Baron to side with the Federation. He said he would take what I told him under consideration, and that he would return in Twenty-Four hours if he indeed agreed to join us, he also said if he wasn’t back in Twenty-Four hours not to wait because they wouldn’t be joining us. With that the Mirak Baron left to his ship.

Twenty-Four hours had passed, and there was still no sign of the Mirak. Feeling defeated and as if the mission was a failure I order the Yoritomo to head back to Earth. On our way back though, we detected a fleet of ships following us, the distance was too far to get accurate readings, but I knew it was the Mirak, ordering the ship to slow down we let the ships catch up, once they did my suspicions were confirmed it was the Mirak and together we continued on course for Earth.

Once in range of earth we commenced our attack. The Yoritomo faired well during the start of the assault but over time the ship started to take a pounding. We lost our warp engine, and were taking hard hits on our hull due to the lack of shields. The poor ship couldn’t handle the beating much longer, and I ordered the ship to fire all weapons left and to put the phasers on over load. As soon as we fired out last volley of torpedoes the ship was hit extremely hard, we lost all main power, the only thing left online were thrusters. Knowing the ship could no longer sustain its crew issued the order to abandon ship.

Staying behind I piloted the crippled Yoritomo, as a last ditch effort, into the Borg ship, destroy both the Yoritomo and the Borg ship.

I later woke up on a bio bed on Star Base Alpha, only to find out almost all my crew was lost, because the resulting explosion from the Yoritomo and the Borg ship destroyed the escape pods. If it weren’t for the Mirak Baron, most of the ships senior staff wouldn’t be alive today, and had it not been for the Captain of the Klingon ship Gorkon who beamed me out at the last second, I too would have been killed.

Currently the former crew of the USS Yoritomo is enjoying some well earned shore leave, and as for me, I’m heading on to my next great adventure in life, my retirement from Star Fleet.
