Captain's Log, Stardate 20009.07

Lieutenant Commander Kelly Longbow, Commanding Officer of the USS Yoritomo reporting.

The Yoritomo had no sooner docked at Star Base 1 and our troubles began. Repairs from a conflict on our previous mission were underway, but were constantly being delayed by bureaucratic red tape that we later found out was being used as a delay tactic to keep us in port.

Three ships had been stolen from the Fleet bone yards, and we were to investigate a possible lead to those who took them. On the heels of dealing with hostile forces, this act of high thievery was not immediately connected to it all, but now seems all too clear. There are forces at work fighting a secret war. We found traitors at every turn. First we were being sabotaged in space dock, and later once we had departed as well.

A specially engineered bacteria was placed to contaminate our dilithium chamber, and it took a great deal of effort to extract it all. We began to come under other physical attack, and so I increased security measure on the ship, eventually going so far as to detach from the space dock and have people brought on by shuttle.

Once underway, while still finishing repairs, we managed to begin heading towards the Geisling System. During the course of our journey, we received word the the Belfast had disappeared as well, but this was an active duty ship, and implied that they had been taken over if they were part of this mess as well.

We had no sooner managed to finally make progress when we discovered that we were being shadowed by an cloaked ship. Soon after that was to be the ultimate act of treachery when LtJg Trax Dorin attacked me and fled the ship in a shuttle. He didn't leave without giving us several things to remember him by. There was a bomb in his quarters, several dormant viruses planted in computer systems throughout the ship, as well as the main computer core, and of course the specially concocted virus cocktail that had be specially genetically engineered for killing me. Fortunately, due to other circumstances that Dorin wasn't aware of, I was able to survive long enough for the crew to manage to revive me.

Once the ship was again repaired we continued on our way to Geisling. When we arrived we found the Belfast in the Geisling System, but out of caution we didn't hail her. Both the cloaked ship, as the Belfast began powering up their weapons, so we went on the offensive, hoping to cripple and capture the Belfast and find out who was behind all of this. Unfortunately the Belfast escaped using space mines to block pursuit. We did manage to disable and capture the Cloaked ship, which turned out to be the USS Schwarzkopf

Once aboard, we transferred the prisoners to the Yoritomo and began repairing her to ship her back to a Star Base. During the deck to deck search, 2Lt LaRoche was seriously injured. There were attempts made by the original Marine crew to retake control of the ship, but it was undermanned and our people handled the situation with heavy casualties inflicted on the enemy force. They had some sort of container in the Cargo Bay that they used as what we can only assume was a command cell. Unfortunately, when our people tried to force it open, a plasma fire was ignited, perhaps from inside to destroy the contents. It was destroyed in the attempt and had to be jettisoned to save the rest of the ship.

Communication was once again established with Star Base 1 and we were ordered to return with the ship and prisoners. We managed to tow it back in good time and with no notable difficulty.

On a personal note, I've ordered my Staff Officers to carry side-arms while on the Star Base. I've also instituted extreme security measures. After what it took for us to basically escape from unfriendly forces in our departure, I'm sad to say I'm untrusting as we return.
