Personal History

Yasmin's parents met in high school and fell madly in love. They got married as soon as they got out of school and decided to take over Simon's father's business. They struggled for awhile but eventually things picked up and they decided to have children. Merrick was born 3 years after they got married, and five years later they had Yasmin.

Merrick has always been very protective of his little sister which annoyed her growing up but now she appreciates it more. While Merrick started working at the family shop at a young age Yasmin was more interesting in daydreaming about far away places. It angered her father that she was so eager to dismiss what they had worked so hard to build. As a result, Yasmin and her father grew apart and Merrick was favored. She never held this against her brother, but she barely spoke to her father.

At age 10 her father sent her into the market to find customers, she spotted a man in well dressed clothing. Later, she found out his name was Richard Westfield, the Earth Ambassador's son. It didn't matter to her who he was, he became like another brother to her. Rikk was always around, and she grew to depend on him. At age 12 a group of Ferengi tourist happened upon the shop, and she often sat on the step outside the shop avoiding her fathers orders. Yasmin had never met a Ferengi before but had heard her father cursing about buying goods from them and calling them names. The young Ferengi boys intrigued by her beauty tryed to speak to her and when she refused she was beaten and 'attacked' , leaving her with a scar on her chin as a reminder. From then on she grew to hate the Ferengi and how dishonest and brutal she thought they could be. The event has left her emotionally scared, and possibly barren. Her only comfort was having Rikk around to keep her safe, her hero.

At age 14 she met Thomas Brant, a Human/Betazoid boy and they became best friends. Thomas was there for her when her father passed away only a year after they had met. Yasmin was shocked when her seemingly healthy father had a sudden heart attack, by the time a medical team reached the shop it was too late. Yasmin was guilt ridden that she didn't get to tell him how much she did love him. With her father now gone the pressure was on Merrick to continue to run the business and care for his mother and Yasmin. Growing up her love for engineering faded, it became a hobby she loved to explore with Rikk. By 16 she was completely infatuated with Rikk, even to the point of stealing her first kiss from him. She hung around the shop helping him out, using the knowledge her grandfather (A Starfleet Chief Engineer) had pasted on. But her love for science developed the moment she started labs at school. Her thirsty for knowledge was never quenched, and she earned the nickname "Sponge".

Joining the Academy

Yasmin's brother at age 21 married a lovely young Betazoid and Yasmin liked her. As a result, they soon became like sisters, telling each other everything. When she confessed to Merrick's wife, Claira, that she wished to join the academy she supported Yasmin. The news didn't go over well with Yasmin's mother , but Merrick promised to care for her in Yasmin's absence. Thomas wasn't pleased when she told him, and confessed her had loved her not long after they had met. Thomas gave her an ultimatum- stay and be with him or go to the academy and never speak again. This was a very hard decision, though she didn't feel that way about him she didn't know if she wanted to give up knowing him at all. When Rikk left to find his missing grandfather it sealed her fate. She was determined to join the academy and at least accomplish one dream. When her 17th birthday came a week later, she told Thomas she was going away. In his anger he vowed to never speak to her again. She was angry with Rikk for abandoning her so she didn't tell him about leaving, but figured her family would tell him.

USS Titan, CL-2007

Yasmin was finally living one dream as she stepped aboard the Titan and found her new home. She was pleasantly surprised to see that the Captain was also a Betazoid, making her feel more at ease and less alone.

Shoreleave- Star Base Bravo- A reunion that changed her life

Shortly after her first mission ended she was having dinner at Starbase Bravo and got a nice surprise. Rikk had joined Starfleet and her ship, and things were going great. Bad news struck when she got word of her brother and his wife being ill. Rikk whisked her away to see them, and once again proved to be her hero. The next day, Claira pasted away from her illness, leaving the family devastated. Yasmin was overcome with grief when she realized her nephew, Simon, will be without his mother. The only thing that kept her going is her love for Rikk and him confessing he loves her in return.

Personal Mission- Requiem

The two (Yasmin and Rikk) embark on a dangerous mission with Paul Braggins, one that leaves them both emotionally scarred. Surviving death makes her stronger and more committed to her duties as an officer. The experience, though traumatic, taught her lessons she will hold on to for the rest of her life.

Second Mission- First Contact

The next mission excited Yasmin, she loved mixing her love for Science and Engineering so this proved to be an interesting mission. Before she was asked to leave the ship she was asked something that would change her life again drastically. Rikk proposed to her in a romantic holodeck setting, and she accepted. They plan to have the wedding after the mission is over, eager to start their new life together. After the proposal Yasmin makes a startling confession, that her brother is in fact not her brother at all. She had learned the truth as a teenager, a lie she had kept for the sake of not losing her brother. She confessed that Merrick was actually Rikks half brother, and that her parents had taken him in after Jonathon Westfield had brought Merrick to them as a baby. The two planned to tell Merrick after the wedding, and Yasmin vowed to find Merricks birth mother. Terrified she would lose her brother she would have nightmares, until the day she could tell her brother the truth.

While on the planet, she is overwhelmed at the beauty and history of the culture around her. She soon becomes concerned when she learns that the planet is dying of dehydration, a problem she soon discovers a solution to. During that time they were arrested and accused of being in violation of the Prime Directive. When they were arrested and brought before the Prime Chancellor of the planet they weren't alone. The Klingons were there, and accused Yasmin of being a fool, something she found very offensive. When then Klingons tried to take the planet by force Yasmin saw her opportunity to strike and challenged the Klingon Captain. The hand-to-hand battle was fierce but in the end an exhausted Yasmin won the fight. The victory caused the shooting to stop and she tried to speak up about her findings. The Prime Chancellor, a man she respected but grew to dislike, disregarded her and humiliated her. Feeling defeated she gave into her injuries and hoped for the best. In the end, the Kyrtens decided to become a part of the Federation.

Shortly after arriving back on the Titan, Captain Tregelen called her to his Ready Room. Yasmin was sure after her outspoken and some what reckless behavior on the planet she'd wind up in the brig. She was reprimanded but also commended for caring for her crew. So, Yasmin was promoted to Lt [JG] and given the position of Chief Science Officer. Then, she sat off to spend part of her shoreleave getting married on Betazed.

The Wedding

Before the wedding, Yasmin was taking a walk and saw one of her attackers. Frightened and alone she panicked and ended up falling backwards, into unconsciousness. While out she drifted to an after life and saw her father, grandfather and sister in law. She finally got to tell her father how she felt, although he already knew. When she woke Rikk was there to take her to the hospital to get treated for a concussion. When they left and settled into the hotel to have a drink her brother sent her a message, stating he knew about not being her real brother. After a confrontation with Rikk, Merrick saw reason and forgave them all.

The Wedding was elaborate yet simple, with a mix of Betazoid and human traditions. Yasmin was happy to let her brother walk her down the aisle instead of Jonathon Westfield. She was also happy to see a mix of crew members, friends she'd met on missions, and family all gathered together for their day. It was the best day of her life, at least until they could have a child.

Life goes on

The coming years were difficult, since Yasmin had to make a choice that would alter the course for many people's lives. Her brother Merrick contracted a rare virus, one there was no cure for or even any way of knowing how he contracted it. Yasmin went home, to care for him and run the family shop. During that time Jenson Dulan, a former crew mate, came to ask for her help. She agreed and set out on an adventure that twisted down an unexpected road. She developed feelings for Jenson, one that by Betazoid standards was normal, but it contradicted her human marriage. Nothing went beyond a kiss, although she had wanted much more, which confused her and caused her much pain. Once Jenson left she thought things would go back to normal, until Rikk sent her the divorce papers, and her world came crashing down around her. It was then that Merrick, being of much better health, suggested she go back to the only other love of her life. She accepted a post on the USS Dauntless, hoping it would somehow help her forget the hopeless feeling that now consumed her.

Fresh new start

Yasmin settled into her role nicely, spending many days in the Botany lab, her favorite place. She missed her family, especially her brother and nephew, but she was truly home now. She went back to Betazed as much as she could, spending time with Simon to help ease the hurt of his mothers passing. He was too young to remember her, but Yasmin kept reminding him through photographs. She made a close friend, in fact they became like sisters, and it made her miss Claira less every day. Cleo Banks was made Chief Science Officer, and Yasmin was very happy for her.

During this time, she found herself attracted to her Commanding Officer, Mike Wong. They began a casual fling that ended when Mike confessed he didn't have time for a relationship. She held on to the hope that he would change his mind, because nothing would make her stop loving him.

Mission to 42-Ursa Marjoris

During a mission to 42-Ursa Marjoris, they came upon a dismal sight. Ten Federation ships had been destroyed, and the only survivor they could find carried a horrible secret. When the man was brought to sickbay Doctor Korbon Hawkens was struck down as he touched the man, something was very wrong with the man’s brain. Yasmin could sense it, and tried to warn Cleo, but it was too late. Cleo was then possessed by the being that had been latched onto the survivors mind. She had no idea that her friend was sick, as she watched Cleo go the Bridge. When she realized what was going on, it was too late, Cleo had stabbed Mike and it was clinging to life. She watched him slip away, wishing she had fought him more and spent more time with him. When Mike died her heart broke, but she just couldn't let it happen, she had to have him back. After doing CPR, with the help of the ships COS Kevin Rolands, they were beamed to sickbay. Mike started to recover slowly, but Yasmin never left his side. She spend every day checking on him, chatting away about her family and enjoying their time. The subject about their relationship finally came up, and they decided they couldn't stand to be apart.

Reunions and Sad news

Soon after Mike's recovery they arrived at Starbase Bravo, where Eden Moone, the ships counselor, rejoined the crew. A dinner was held at the Fook Moon Lam Restaurant, where new crew mates were introduced and medals were handed out. Sadly, Cleo had decided after the incident during the last mission she needed to transfer. So Yasmin was promoted to Chief Science Officer and asked to give Cleo her medal. On her way back to the ship to see Cleo, she ran into an old friend, Lymtara Vexx from her old ship, the USS Titan. Lym and her brother Merrick, had a one night fling one year before, and as a result Yasmin now had a niece, Syrii. Yas immediately fell in love with the little one, and they made plans to meet up again soon.

She rushed off to tell Cleo goodbye, and sent her friend off with a hopeful heart. But the happy atmosphere that had surrounded her, soon came crashing down around her. The news of her brothers sudden death left her feeling conflicted, between doing her job and grieving properly. Her mother confessed that she couldn't handle raising Simon, her three year old nephew. After some heartfelt pleading with Mike, he agreed to let the child come aboard. Simon and his grandmother soon joined them, in a reunion that ended in a heated argument between the two woman. After Morianna stormed off the ship, Simon was free to settle in with her aunt.

Mission - Kaleb Sector

Yasmin settled into her new role easily, having spent some time being CSO of the Titan before her transfer. A new Midshipman was introduced, between her busy move from her normal quarters, to a family quarters. The arrival at the Kaleb sector quickly turned from studying a rift in space, to helping a ship in need, a ship that had travelled through time and space to be there. The USS Kiev was badly hurt, from a battle that was long over in their time. The rift was growing out of control, and simulations proved that it could be closed, but it needed to be done soon. An unknown ship appeared on the sensor scans, making the job even more rushed than it had been before.

Yasmin returned home to Betazed after a horrible break up with her lover, Commodore Wong. The love affair ended when Wong decided to retire, and broke things off with her. Yasmin took Simon to Betazed, retiring briefly to collect herself and let Simon grow a bit. Her heart always belonged to the federation, and constant updates from Cleo Banks, made her realize it was time to go home. Being on the Dauntless would remind her of Mike, but at least she had Simon and her friends to help her through.

After a short stay on the Dauntless, Yasmin had to return to Betazed to enrol Simon in a special school. She stayed a short while, to be sure he was properly settled in, then returned to Starfleet. She was reassigned to the Sheridan, the same ship as Cleo. She was nervous about leaving Simon behind, but excited to see her best friend again. She promised to visit Simon on shore leave, and set out for her new ship.
