Personal History
Selyn was born at a late time in her parents life, though she was never treated wrongly or different then any of her siblings. She grew up with her mother mostly, as her father was usually off stationed on some new planet or dealing with some ambassadorial claim from the Federation or Rigelians. Growing up Selyn was always close to her siblings most especially her sister Mocara. Being so close in age, at least by rigelian standards, they spent much of their free time enjoying one another's company. Whether they were out listening to the Jintalaen pipes whistling in the wind like a choir, or seated beside the sandy ridges of Lake Otagawa.
Despite spending most of her time with her mother it did anything but damage her. Selyn found herself mesmerized by her mother's work. Constantly she would sit and watch her work. Selyn herself would spend hours watching digital texts on the studies of biology or other medical sciences. Constantly glancing up to catch a smile from her mother or a gleam of what she was doing.
When Selyn was in her teens she experienced something she herself had always thought about. Her mother was given an opportunity to lead a very small expedition to one of Rigel V's moons. It was a once in a lifetime chance and her mother asked her to accompany her as an assistant. The chance to help her mother discover new and uncharted history was a gleaming light that she could not pass up. Thus Selyn spent the better part of a month with her mother everyday aiding and helping her in her studies and findings. These were the greatest moments of Selyn's life.
Not too long after her trip with her Mother, Selyn's Father returned home for sometime off of assignment. It was during these few months that Selyn spoke in depth of what she would hope to do with her many years ahead. She would enter Medical Studies and help people across the galaxy. Surprised, though happy with her choice, Selyn's parents gifted her an entire set of the Rigelian Texts of Genetics and Biology. Selyn has kept these books for many years since. She still sits and reads through them consistently, making notation's and thoughts in the brackets.
At Sixteen, as most young adolescent do, Selyn believed she had excelled and could tackle anything before her. She began her studies and own experiments in her family home. Her mother tasked with a nearby project and her father off on Draconia, she had much time to herself. Unfortunately arrogance got the best of Selyn and one of her experiments went awry. An alembic and several beaker exploded, sending fragments of glass and volatile liquid across her face. Selyn was rushed to the Rigelian Hospital for treatment. Although they could heal the scars across her face she refused their offer. Deeming she would always wear the scar as a reminder.
During this age, with her father at home, Selyn was introduced to a comrade of his. A young assistant who was hired on for writing speeches, maintaining wardrobe, even designing bead wear for political endeavors. The two immediately hit it off, discussing the deep inner workings of the cultural standings in Rigelian life. The importance of family and carrying ones family name. His name was Nathra Yanor, a handsome and vibrant young Rigelian with great dreams and high hopes for his musings.
The two began to spend allot of time together. At first with one another's families as two young Rigelians alone was forbidden. Especially at Selyn's age, for it was widely accepted she was not fully matured enough to have private visitations with a male of any species. Though Selyn did not mind this as she found Nathra's father to be a delightfully amusing man. Always having his hands in something, making some sort of statue or painting. Always beading some piece of Jewelry. An amazing personality that had the entire house smiling day in and out.
Nathra of course admired Selyn's Mother for her dedication and her father for his stern work ethic. You could say they both learned allot from one another's heritage. It would seem the year flew by as their friendship blossomed and grew. But of course as is with all things Her father was sent on another mission and Nathra left with him. At the age of Seventeen Selyn applied to the Rigelian Institute for Biological study. Although scoring very high on the tests provided she was refused admittance to the school. Saddened and feeling as if she had disappointed her parents and family. Although Selyn wasted no time bouncing back, instead applying to the Federation Academy. She was bound and determined to prove she was good at what she could do. As such, despite having enough credits to take the graduation exam, Selyn extended her tenure at the academy. Studying and learning as much as she could.
It was at the academy on Earth that Selyn found herself running into Nathra once more. Apparently he been working on Earth as an artist. Previewing his canvases and statues in some sort of gallery. They rekindled their friendship which quickly blossomed into so much more. Nathra had supposedly left her father's delegation to pursue his own dreams. Selyn's father was sad to see him leave but had apparently pushed Nathra to follow his dreams.
Selyn found herself spending more and more time with this man. He made her comfortable in a new world she knew hardly anything of. Reminded her of home and all the good times. Yet most of all made her smile. Their friendship quickly blossomed into something so much more, and in her eight year at the academy during a break they traveled home and were wed. Returning to San Francisco with her new found mates name they found a comfortable little abode near campus. Nathra drumming up what he could with his art and bead work to help them get buy. Why he even took a second job in a nearby cafe. Always standing behind Selyn to usher her to pursue her dreams and make her family proud.
As Selyn found herself on the final year of her studies they began to discuss what would happen. Why there were many star fleet personnel that were married and lived separate of each other. Even some Rigelians practiced this for work came first in most of their culture. Luckily Nathra assured her his work could go anywhere and they would always travel side by side. Now Selyn finds herself at the end of her academy training and is whisked off to the final exams. Hoping to land them a position, and a new home on one of star fleets fine vessels. Nathra always cheering her one, remained home to pack up their belongings. Either they would move on or return home. Only Selyn can make that final decision.

Hobbies and Pastimes: Selyn likes to spend her time beading. Creating jewelry that stands in line with the normal Rigelian design. Selyn has also taken to the liking of a Human form of art from the old 18-1900's called Classical Music. Her personal Favorites are the workings of one Mozart and Bach. Although she has not found a way to bring her Mate or Family into the likes of such. Beyond such Selyn can be found reading one of the volumes of the Rigelian Genetic and Biological Texts.
Short-Term Goals: To find a comfortable place on a new starship or base and make friends. To begin her own family with her Mate Nathra. To finish her studies into the properties of mixing technology and herbology for a better medical care.
Long-Term Goals: To continue her mother's work. To find a place in history as one of the galaxies foremost medical minds with her mother's unfinished work.
Personality: Selyn is a fiercely loyal friend. Though it is hard to gain that loyalty. Outright she seems shy at first, but once she has become comfortable she is rather easy to get along with. Philosophical at times it is not uncommon for friends and family to come to her for a should to cry on or ear to listen to. She believes knowledge is the utmost of importance and to always share and aide those around her. The human phrase of "pay it forward" would explain her thought process.
Sense of Humor: Selyn's sense of humor is awkward to say the least. She can usually be seen laughing at a well timed joke or even slap stick humor, but for herself to be funny is few and far between. She has been heard saying quite often "My mate leads the laughter of our union"
Phobias: To be forgotten.
Likes: Preparing traditional Rigelian dishes. Games of chance. Spending time with friends/Family. A good book.
Dislikes: Chocolate. Klingon Opera. Being left alone.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: When someone rearranges or touches her work space or experiments. Being cut off mid sentence or thought.
Bad Habits or Vices: Selyn has a problem with pushing herself to the limit with work. She will spend an entire day on shift sometime an hour or so beyond and then turn her attention towards her experiments.
Achievements: Honors on her paper at the Rigelian institute for her study into Lilaren worms and their healing properties. Invited to speak at a seminar on Cross species mating with Rigelians and the possibilities of procreation. Received Trophy of the Chanar for her experiments into Reanimation of dormant genetics. Received honors in Psychology, and Interspecies Protocol at the Academy. Bequeathed the written journals of her Mothers research and study. Full written series of the Rigelian Genetic and Biological Texts.
Disappointments: Barely passed the Academies physical examinations. Passing with some of the lowest scores in the General Physicals course. Not being accepted into the Rigelian Institute of Biological Study.
Illnesses: None known.
Strengths: Being able to soothe a patient with relative ease. Quick work under pressure.
Weaknesses: Physical Labor and low strength.
Fears: To be forgotten after her death.
Prejudices: Selyn has a deep seeded Prejudice for Ferengi as her father's vessel was once attacked and held hostage by a Ferengi D'kora acting outside of the Species Government.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: When Selyn is off duty she can usually be seen wearing the Rigelian normal attire. Essentially a long flowing robe of earthy tones with bead work across the chest. As well as her families colors in intricate beaded necklaces and other jewelry.
Distinguishing Features: The left side of Selyn's face she has several jagged indented scar tissue. They vary in size and shape. The scars start from just above her left upper lip and run upwards across her cheek towards her ear and hairline, as well as across her eye.
Pets: Luvarian Color Beetle's. A large beetle that stands about 4 inches in length. They are Vibrant and beautiful in color. Once a week the Luvarian beetle sheds its under skin to take on a new tone. The rigelians have a found a way to take this skin and mix it with other common oils and dry ingredients to create a beautifully vibrant color.

Personal Paradigm Shifts
Most Painful Experience: When Selyn was very young news arrived of her father's transport being attacked by raiders. They held her father and the rest of the passengers for over a week with demands of ransom to be paid for them. If it wasn't for a federation vessel coming to their aide things could of gotten far worse. She shudders to this day to think of things that would of gone worse.
Best Time: Her Marriage to Nathra. It was a three day festively to celebrate the new joining between two Rigelian Families. During this time both families feasted and came to know another. Exchanging old family recipes, stories, and Wealth.
Most Crucial Experience: Accompanying her mother during her studies in Biology. One specific moment sticks in Selyn's mind. When she was fourteen her mother took her on a study of a nearby moon of Rigel V. Apparently a micro-organism was found that would suggest that Rigelian's had established colonies beyond their own planet years before planned. Although her mother's finding proved otherwise all Selyn remembers is two weeks of spending time with her Mother morning till night daily. Exchanging ideas and learning much. It was her mother's devotion that set her on the path of medical studies.
