Personal History

Valeria is the daughter of Valcon Xzanarsis (a professor at the University of Betazed and also a professional Psychologist) and Lareanna Trax-Xzanarsis (a professional Psychologist) who met during a seminar at the University of Betazed. She had a younger brother named Victor Xzanarsis and Aldrea Xzanarsis.

During her childhood she was a child who excelled on her studies as well as her social standings. She was a lively child and would often find her way towards the stage and athletic competitions. At a very young age, she was also trained to meditate by her mother to prepare her for the transition and development of her telepathic abilities. Her lovely childhood was cut-off short when her mother died on a shuttlecraft accident while she was on her way to a medical facility off world wherein she was called for a research experiment. Valeria was only eight years old when her mother died.

After the death of her mother Valeria felt lost, angry, and hurt. For months she shut people out of her life, and her grades and health started to suffer. Unknown to her family, the development of her psionic abilities had been triggered by the stress she had suffered from (and probably because her relatives on her mother’s side has a strong psionic strength and therefore develops it slightly earlier). After months of seclusion and brooding, she went to the final exams for that year and unknowingly projected several depressive thoughts and moods on her schoolmates. Fortunately, before anything got out of hand it was fixed by the school’s administration.

Valeria’s father wasn't really close to her before her mother died, but he tried to reach out to his daughter knowing that they are experiencing the same pain. Everything that her mother had done to her in the past – like training her and accompanying her to events – was adapted by her father. He spent more time with her and became her best friend. Slowly, things started to go back to normal but there would always be a piece of her that would feel pain whenever she remembers her mother.

A year later after the death of her mother, her father decided to relocate their family to Earth after he was offered a position at the Terran Psychological facility and University. Her grandmother’s incessant blaming of her father for the death of her mother was also one of the catalyst why her father had decided to leave Betazed.

They had settled in at London, England when they relocated at Earth. During the first few months it was hard for her to settle in, not only because of the difficulty she faced on understanding humans but also because of the difficulty she had on not using her telepathic abilities to them. She had several times been reminded on her then new Terran school that reading the mind of anybody on Earth is considered rude.

It was a year later after they moved to Earth that her father decided to engage in a relationship with a Terran woman named Joanne Field (a single parent whose daughter was named Sherry Field) who was working as an Exobiologist at the University where her father was working at. At first Valeria didn't like the idea of her father marrying another woman, she was afraid that he would forget his love for her late mother. Eventually she saw how much the Joanne loved her father and slowly began to accept her in her life. Their coupling resulted to another child – which was bound to be the youngest in the family – named Alexander Xzanarsis.

Valeria had graduated early on Terran High School (Betazoid’s started education at a younger ager than Terran) and decided to leave and go back to Betazed to study Psychology and follow the footsteps of her parents. Despite of her efforts to honor her parents by studying their craft she was unable to feel a fulfilling satisfaction from it. Though she did her best and graduated with the highest honors she did not feel any passion for the craft. Therefore, after her she graduated she left Betazed.

Also, during her stay at Betazed she had tried to mend the broken family relations between her grandmother (her mother’s mother) and her father. A couple of attempts had proven to be quite unsuccessful for her grandmother but her grandfather started to talk to her father to talk things down.

Wanting to find her own passion on a subject since she was unsuccessful on Psychology, she grabbed the opportunity and went with her grandparents to go onto different planets on an exploration. They had visited a quite a few Federation Colonies as well as other Federation allied planets. That was when she began to realize how gratifying the experience of space exploration is for her. She then remember that she used to paint planets and read stories about theories on space and uncharted territories when she was young. Exploration of space was her long forgotten dream that had been rediscovered once again.

After their exploration she traveled back to Earth and enrolled at Starfleet. At first her choice was to enroll as a cadet on the Security field since she was pretty athletic, but then she remembered the satisfaction that she had gotten after making scientific observations at the planets she had visited and chose the field of Science to pursue at the Academy.

On her first year as a cadet at the academy she met a boy named Gregory Kingsley (Engineering department) who eventually became her first boyfriend…and her first heartbreak. A couple of months before she and Gregory became a couple she learnt that he had other girlfriends on the academy on different academic fields. She broke up with him eventually but not before ruining his warp core simulation by programming it to explode chili when the core reaches a critical level. Of course she wouldn't have done it alone, she had the help of Gregory’s other girlfriends who was just as angry as her. Because of that experience she had a hard time trusting anybody else on her life, except maybe her family.

The rest of her Starfleet Academy experience proved to be a gratifying route for her. She felt home, comfortable, and elated to be studying things that she love and dreamed of. As time pass by she had learnt to juggle the balance between academics and social life (it was hard at first but she managed). In the end she had good grades, good reputation, and a good academic record.
