The Xindi were an alliance of species who evolved on the same planet in the Delphic Expanse, known as Xindus.
Their infamous attack on Earth, and attempts to eradicate Humans in the early 2150s, changed the course of history.
These series of events helped to push the establishment of United Earth as a major interstellar power.

Different Species

Six different intelligent species developed on Xindus. The Xindi-Avians were believed extinct by the 2150s, due to the constant civil wars between the multiple species that eventually destroyed their own planet.
The surviving species were united under the governance of the Xindi Council, which contained two representatives from each species.

Surviving species:

The different Xindi species were extremely similar in their functionally-important DNA, sharing over 99.5% despite the apparent physical differences. All the Xindi species shared distinctive ridges on their cheekbones and foreheads.

Each of the five remaining species had their own opinions about which was the "dominant species," all separately favoring their own. Therefore, conflict remained between them, causing a constant distrust between the species as a whole.
According to some observations, the Arboreals and Primates fought the least, and the Reptilians and Insectoids fought the most, whether between each other or generally speaking. The Aquatics were seen as largely indecisive.

History

The Xindi have a long and turbulent history, characterized largely by inter-species conflict up until the destruction of their homeworld in the 2030s.
In the 2150s, they collectively attempted to destroy Earth with a superweapon.

Civil War

For roughly 100 years, the six different Xindi races fought for control of their homeworld, Xindus. By the end of the war, Reptilians and Insectoids had forged an alliance, resulting in the destruction of the planet during the 2030s.
Unfortunately for the Avians, their species was unable to evacuate before the planet was destroyed. After the planet's destruction, the era know as the "Great Diaspora" began, and the various Xindi species declared a unilateral
peace between their peoples as they tried to find a new home planet.

Relocation

Unfortunately, the five remaining species were unable to agree on a single new world, and instead spread themselves across several planets based on their own preferences.
During this time, trans-dimensional beings they called the "Guardians" contacted the Xindi, helping them move their people to their preferred planets, and avoid the dangers of their new territory.
The Guardians were also responsible for helping to keep the peace between the different Xindi species, and helping the foundation of the Xindi Council.

Manipulation

During the 2140s, the Guardians contacted the Xindi Council, informing them that in the future, Humans would be responsible for destroying a planet the Xindi would soon call their collective new home.
Understandably taking this news personally, the Xindi resolved to wipe out Humanity and Earth first, and the "Guardians" cemented the Xindi as pawns in their own war. The Xindi began working together
to construct a planet-killing weapon, testing the weapon on Earth itself in 2153. Several million people were killed, and Starfleet responded by sending their flagship into the Delphic Expanse in order to find
and destroy the Xindi's final version of the weapon.

Arriving at Azati Prime in January 2154, Captain Archer informed the Xindi of their own research on the Delphic Expanse: the dangerous spheres in their new territory were made by the Guardians themselves.
Warping space in order to blur the lines between the two dimensions, the Guardians were using the spheres -and the Xindi- to help their own plans to conquer the Alpha Quadrant. The Xindi-Primates and
Xindi-Arboreals were convinced using the evidence, but the representatives for the Reptilians and Insectoids were not, and instead stole the weapon planned for the use of Earth's total destruction. Forced to work together,
the Enterprise, Xindi-Primates, Xindi-Arboreals and Xindi-Aquatics pursued, captured, and destroyed the weapon, as well as the Sphere Network inside the Expanse.

As a whole, the Xindi people were grateful towards Archer and Starfleet, though their teamwork with him seemed to deepen the fractures between some of the species.

Culture

The Xindi previously worshipped the Guardians, considering them as gods and saviors. Children were taught to revere them, and give thanks to them at the end of each day.

  • Aquatics - Enigmatic and known to over-analyze, they respond better to visual stimuli, and are extremely suspicious of the spoken word. They admire boldness and confidence, and treat hushed tones with suspicion.
  • Arboreals - Have a dislike / fear of large amounts of water; are considered to be lethargic by the other Xindi species, as they are extremely calm, even when taken hostage.
  • Insectoids - Genderless, they are strongly concerned over the survival of their offspring. Individuals are able to produce large clusters of eggs. They interpret raised voices as a sign of hostility, and are quick to make decisions.
  • Primates - Seen as the intellectual species of Xindi, they are generally seen as fair, honest, and trustworthy.
  • Reptilians - The most aggressive and impatient of Xindi, a common Reptilian saying was, "Patience is for the dead." Soldiers were implanted with a "suicide gland" that secreted a neurotoxin if they were captured.

Language

The Primates, Arboreals, and Reptilians spoke a common language that was recognized by Earth Star Fleet universal translators.
The Insectoids and Aquatics understood this language, but appeared to be physically incapable of speaking it.
