Personal History

Born on the North American Land Continent of Earth, Wueste's childhood was mostly uneventful and, upon successful completion of High School, he decided to pursue a career in Star Fleet. He failed his first entrance exam, more specifically the infamous "psych test," and was prevented from entering the Academy. Despite this seemingly major setback, Wueste would not be dissuaded from his ambition to serve and chose to view the situation not as a failure, but rather as an opportunity to better sharpen his skills before trying again. For the next few years Dan tried his hand at the family business, running passenger shuttles between Earth and Mars. He used his spare time to study and prepare to retake the Academy Entrance Examination. He finally reapplied and this time he received a perfect score on all of his entrance materials, including a positive evaluation on his psych test. As a Second Year Cadet, on field study at a Communications Relay Station on Mars, he uncovered a conspiracy involving one of his Academy Instructor's to cover-up an unauthorized recovery operation. His report on this incident led to the Court Martial of that officer, Star Fleet Commander Thomas Shaw. For his conduct in this situation, and for upholding the principles of Star Fleet and the Federation, he was awarded a medal. It was during his junior year that Wueste would meet lifelong friend Joseph Valiant. After graduating from the Academy he took advanced tactical training courses, honing his skills in many areas, primarily focusing on Security and Command.

LCdr Wueste

His first assignment was as a security officer aboard the USS Yoritomo. His time on the Yoritomo saw him rise to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During his tenure on Yoritomo he would meet his future wife, Samantha Aster, at the time a fellow Security officer. The two quickly began a close friendship that eventually developed into a deeper relationship. During the Pulsar Incident he served with the Yoritomo and Valley Forge crews aboard the former Federation Flagship, the USS Enterprise-E. Upon the recapture of USS Pulsar, he was assigned as Pulsar’s acting Chief of Security. After returning to Spacedock, he was promoted to the rank of Commander, and assigned to the USS Valley Forge, a Fearless Class Heavy Cruiser, as First Officer. When the Valley Forge’s Captain, Mortarr K’ang, resigned his Star Fleet commission, Dan found himself thrust into command of the vessel. On Stardate 20204.22, as a result of damage incurred at the outset of the Romulan War, during a mission to Elteban III, the USS Valley Forge was removed from active service. That mission had not only seen the crippling of his command, but also the kidnapping of Lt. Commander Samantha Aster by Romulan forces and a man known only as Paul Vice. Vice turned out to be the assumed name of Thomas Shaw. Shaw was seeking revenge for the death of his family, for which he blamed Wueste. At that time Dan, recently promoted to Captain, along with his entire crew from the Valley Forge, were transferred to the USS Gettysburg, an all new, state-of-the-art, Avenger Class Battle Cruiser. During a mission to investigate a region of intense subspace interference, dubbed the "Dead Zone" for its effect on sensors and communications, Dan would use the Gettysburg, against orders, to cross into Romulan territory and rescue Aster. During the rescue attempt, Vice escaped and, upon return to Federation Space, Dan nearly faced Court Martial for his actions. Able to rescue Aster, and despite receiving a reprimand, he personally considered the mission to be a success.

Captain Wueste

Shortly thereafter he asked Aster to marry him. On Stardate 20211.08, the two were married by Fleet Admiral Jon Beckett. Their honeymoon was short-lived as the Borg Invasion, and subsequent initiation of the Armageddon Directive, sent the Gettysburg into a dangerous mission involving time travel. Their marriage faced its first test as Dan discovered that in this alternate future his entire crew had been assimilated. Dan's counterpart in this reality led his former crew, now all borg, in a rebellion against the Borg Queen, an assimilated Samantha Aster. Before returning to their own time, Dan was forced to kill the Borg Aster.

During the remainder of his time aboard the Gettysburg, Dan rose to the rank of Commodore. Shortly after his promotion, on Stardate 20307.16, he was transferred to Starbase Charlie to serve as Assistant Commander of the Third Fleet. This new assignment took Wueste away from his ship and his wife. Their marriage saw further difficulties when Dan, and his CO, the Third Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Jeffrey Linden, were sent on an undercover operation to eliminate Paul Vice (Stardate 20402.12). Vice, who had been leading raids on Cardassian colonies, was now seen as a threat to Federation security. This mission, a joint operation between Star Fleet Security and Star Fleet Intelligence, prevented him from keeping in contact with Aster.

Commodore Wueste

The operation proved a failure. Wueste and Linden were nearly killed and, in a last ditch attempt to signal for help, Dan managed to transmit a coded distress call. This call was intercepted by an old friend of Wueste's from the Yoritomo, Colonel Avon, and the two were rescued shortly before the total failure of the shuttle's life support (Stardate 20407.21). Avon took them to the Gettysburg, now under the command of Dan's former Chief of Security, Darsyn Syntranos, where they recovered from their injuries. Much to his dismay Dan learned that during his absence Aster had been transferred to another ship. His condition prevented him from contacting her prior to his return to Earth. Not long after his debriefing at Star Fleet Command, Wueste became ill with an initially unidentified disorder (Stardate 20409.05). His affliction was eventually diagnosed as a degenerative Cardassian retrovirus, which attacked his central nervous system. Star Fleet Medical’s best managed to save his life, but the virus left him nearly paralyzed and in need of extended recovery time. On Stardate 20503.26 he was released to his home in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to continue his recovery. Dan requested Commander Richard Pierce, a former colleague from the Valley Forge, to serve as his personal physician. Wueste was ordered by Star Fleet to avoid contact with anyone other than Pierce and Admiral Linden until he had fully recovered. When he pressed for an explanation, Command indicated that with no way to explain his illness without divulging classified information it was better to confine one man than risk a scandal.

This extended phase of isolation proved to be the last straw for his marriage. On Stardate 20501.09 Aster requested the dissolution of the marriage. The divorce was finalized on Stardate 20504.25. By Stardate 20603.11, Wueste remained in forced seclusion, despite having, for all intents and purposes, recovered from the effects of his illness.

On Stardate 20606.26, after being visited by two close friends and former colleagues, Darsyn Syntranos and Alexander Lorien, Wueste terminated his confinement in Pennsylvania and traveled to Tokyo, Japan. His time in Japan was spent at the home of Akira Oto, Syntranos' longtime mentor. Shortly after the death of Akira, when Syntranos was recalled to active duty on Stardate 20608.05, Wueste decided to accompany him to Starbase Charlie. After his arrival at SBC, Wueste was contacted by Jeff Linden and informed that he had arranged for Dan's status to be transfered from Star Fleet Inactive to that of Detached Service, thus making his departure from Earth permissible. When Syntranos and the USS Gettysburg were order to Starbase Bravo (Stardate 20608.21), Dan chose once more to accompany them. During their voyage to SBB the Gettysburg encountered a Romulan probe. During the investigation of this probe, which contained a previously unknown alien artificial intelligence identified simply as "the harbinger," Captain Syntranos was injured and, as the senior officer present, Dan was forced to assume temporary command of the Gettysburg (Stardate 20610.08 - 20612.28). He quickly initiated First Contact procedures with the entity and managed to convince the AI, after determining it to be generally peaceful in nature, to travel with them to a Starbase. The Gettysburg arrived at the base on Stardate 20701.01.

As of Stardate 20702.14, Wueste remained on detached duty and without permanent assignment.

Rear Admiral Wueste

On Stardate 20702.22, Dan received orders to join the crew of the USS Yeager as a Mission Specialist for the duration of the vessels next assignment. Excited by the prospect of his first official assignment in many years, Dan traveled back to Starbase Charlie where he joined the Yeager shortly before launch.

Wueste was instrumental in the Yeager's operation to reclaim Space Station Sierra-18, an Intelligence gathering installation lost during the Borg invasion. On Stardate 20710.01, after careful review of his role in the mission, the Federation Council, at the recommendation of Star Fleet Personnel, approved his promotion to Rear Admiral. Wueste returned to Starbase Alpha on Stardate 20711.20 after learning of his ex-wife's death. Upon his arrival in Sector 001, Dan officiated at Aster's funeral.

On Stardate 20801.09, Dan's stagnating career was given a jump start when Fleet Admiral Rasmus Benestad assigned him as Commanding Officer of the Gettysburg's sister ship, USS Dauntless, putting Wueste back in the field on a permanent basis.

After open conflict resumed between the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire, Dauntless found herself on the front lines and fought Romulan forces near Starbase 157. Not long after this battle, Wueste received additional responsibilities with assignment as 1st Battle Group Commander.

During this time period, the Cardassian virus, which had remained mostly dormant since Stardate 20603.11, became active and began to break down the cellular structures surrounding Dan's spinal column. To ensure his continued active service, Wueste elected to keep this information private from all but Dauntless' Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jaden Hawk, whose initial medical clearance was necessary to begin replication of a daily injection which would slow the spread of the virus and help strengthen Dan's spinal tissues. His ongoing condition is not public knowledge and no one outside of Hawk is aware of it.

On Stardate 20903.27, after putting into port with a heavily damaged USS Dauntless, Wueste and his crew were transferred to the USS Pulsar. Pulsar, serving in its capacity as 1BG Flagship, was instrumental in the signing of a treaty with the Democratic Romulan Republic, one of many factors which led to the conclusion of the war. Since the war's end, Pulsar has taken on a more multi-purpose role, including recent relief efforts to Alpha Centauri. On Stardate 21003.01, after successful resolution of the situation at Alpha Centauri, Wueste was promoted to Vice Admiral.

Vice Admiral Wueste

Returning from a mission to Elteban III (to evaluate the newly installed planetary government's petition for re-admission to the Federation) in the midst of a Fleet re-oganization, Dan was assigned on Stardate 21011.01 as 1st Fleet Deputy Commander and Commander of Battle Group Alpha-1. With these new titles Dan's command, USS Pulsar was re-assigned as Flagship of Battle Group Alpha-1. This transition resulted in re-assignments for the bulk of Pulsar's crew and with Admiral Linden on official travel, an extended period of administrative duties for Wueste on Starbase Alpha.

On Stardate 21208.20, Linden was reassigned to serve as 1st Fleet Security Commander and Wueste was assigned as Acting 1st Fleet Commander. On Stardate 21209.01, Wueste was removed from command of USS Pulsar, promoted to Admiral, and assigned as the permanent 1st Fleet Commander.

For an indeterminate, but extended period, Wueste was controlled by a neural parasite which, along with much of the 1st Fleet and Star Fleet Command, attempted a takeover of the Federation. On approximately Stardate 21701.01, in the aftermath of this conflict, and his recovery, Wueste stepped down from his position with Fleet Command and transitioned to detached service.
