Personal History

As part of a family that spent virtually all its time outside, Andy grew up loving the outdoors and doing things outside, regardless of the weather. His parents required all the children to learn basic first aid for emergencies in the wild, Andy was the most advanced of all of them. After completing the course he worked as a first responder in the Appalachians.

Joining Star Fleet seemed like the next logical adventure when Andy was able to apply his skills, and his family supported him in it. He was able to fly through the physical requirements due to his extensive sports experience. He was encouraged to take the medical track for his proficiency in that work. He focused on what he knew: field medicine and rapid response and triage.

As he heads into space, Andy feels confident in his abilities and ready to carry them out. And see what the galaxy has to offer as well.

First Mission, USS Columbia

Gamma Doradus III Raid

Andy’s introduction into the elite of Star Fleet was Gamma Doradus III. The ship was tasked with assaulting an old Star Fleet outpost, occupied by Romulan terrorists. Prior to joining the assault team as the field medic, Andy helped Science develop some chemical cocktails to use on and against the native fauna, large insects.

In the ensuing action on the planet Andy balanced his practice of medicine with some leading of the fire team covering the back entrance to the outpost, though, then Midshipman, West did most of the combat leading. Andy was able to get all of the people on the team back to the ship, only a couple injuries resulted from the fighting. One of the marines on the main assault team was killed. Andy regretted this, but knew there wasn’t anything he could have done, he wasn’t there and, from the reports, there wasn’t much that could have been done anyway.

The most stressing event to happen, one he spent most of the trip home and shore leave working out, was using the cocktails he helped create. He used a canister of attractant on a group Romulans flanking them. It worked well, as a swarm of small bugs had them dancing before they died. At the time Andy didn’t give it much thought.

The raid concluded soon after and with a little more fighting they were able to get back into the shuttle and back to the ship.

Shoreleave, Star Base Delta

The Columbia made a detour to Star Base Delta to drop off its First Officer.

After an eventful awards ceremony Andy booked an outing to a nearby planet for some backpacking and relaxing. As it turned out, he spent the trip analyzing the mission, his role in it, and that of the Romulans. Over the course of the four day solo trip he came to terms with his issues, and was able to pretty well move on. Using the wilderness to release tension was a method he’d used since before he knew he was doing it.

When he returned from his trip he was pretty much back to his usual self.

--There was a brief break in Andy’s service aboard the USS Columbia.--

Depot Raid

The Columbia was tasked with destroying a terrorist supply depot. Enroute the ship responded to a Federation distress call, only to discover it was a trap set by the Tal’Shiar and that their mission had been betrayed. After Andy was set on the abbreviated away mission to the disabled freighter, SS Jade, three Tal’Shiar ships decloaked around the Columbia. The fighting started soon after, including two boarding parties.

In responding to one of the boarding parties Andy took a disrupter bolt to the chest of the EVA suit he hadn’t had a chance to remove. Fortunately the suit absorbed the bolt, leaving him sore but unharmed. After realizing he wasn’t dead the Romulans escaped down an access way and started making their way up to the bridge, blowing their way through several sealed hatches.

Andy tied down Lt West’s dislocated shoulder before the little group of himself, Lt West, LCdr Vos, Ens Cavalera and CPO Char followed after the Romulans. During which Lt West took two more hits. Andy dragged him out of harms way, being covered by Cavalera and assisted by Vos.

Having been repelled from the bridge the two Romulans left dropped a grenade in an attempt to escape. Cavalera yelled the alarm and tried to kick the grenade back towards the Romulans. Andy covered West with himself to keep the COS from getting further injured, though sustained a laceration to his right flank, including slight damage to his liver from flying debris from the grenade. All members on the ad hoc team took some kind of damage from the blast.

After Andy recovered from the blast and got a little help in dressing from Char he went to work taking care of immediate serious injuries to the others, requesting assistance. CM Sita from the SAS arrived to lend a hand and start moving people to Sickbay. Andy made his own way to Sickbay and was immediately prepped in surgery where Captain Sevala repaired his liver and sealed the laceration. Once he came to Nurse Cirrus briefed him on what had happened in Sickbay. He then got back to work in caring for the wounded. He continued working, off and on, for the next several days as the ship made its way back to Star Base Bravo.

During the mission it was revealed there was a traitor on board. Captain Adaran started a shipwide search, but nothing turned up. They were stopped just shy of Star Base Bravo by a SOCOM vessel, which did its own, more intensive, less gentle search. The SOCOM search also turned up nothing. They were then allowed to dock and disembark before the ship was taken away to a SOCOM facility for repairs.
