Personal History

Michael Winst was born in San Diego, California on Stardate 15902.14. He graduated from Star Fleet Academy’s Tactical Divison in the top 3% of his class. He was assigned as a tactical officer on the USS Carrera, DD-4037. He served on the ship for ten years, reaching the rank of lieutenant and achieving the Chief Tactical Officer position.

Later that year, he was recruited by Star Fleet’s Judge Advocate General Corps along with his best friend, Lieutenant Evan Cutler. They passed the Federation BAR Exam and were assigned to JAG HQ in Falls Church, VA and promoted to lieutenant commander. After reaching the rank of captain, Winst was chosen by the JAG herself, Admiral Kathryn Branis, to be the Staff Judge Advocate for Starbase Bravo. He is thought by many to be the next in line for office of the Judge Advocate General himself.

Since his assignment to the JAG Corps, he has been involved in numerous cases. One in particular stands out. Winst was kidnapped by Ja’rod, a Klingon spy who had infiltrated the JAG Corps. After assassinating a high-ranking Star Fleet official and murdering several innocent people, Ja’rod brought Winst back to the Klingon Empire where he was beaten and tortured for months. Michael managed to escape with the help of his good 'friend', Peter O’Malley.

On Stardate 20603.11 Admiral Branis reassigned Captain Winst to Starbase Alpha as the Staff Judge Advocate for the Sol Sector.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Tactics and Defense
Academy Minor(s): Criminal Justice
Hobbies and Pastimes: Michael just enjoys relaxing in the holodeck. It helps him clear his mind when he is working on a big case
Short-Term Goals: He wants to raise his son as best he can
Long-Term Goals: Become the Judge Advocate General of Star Fleet
Personality: Hard to get to know, but an all-around good guy
Sense of Humor: Dry, what you'd expect from a lawyer
Phobias: Mild arachnophobia. He prefers not to be around spiders, but has learned to control his fear
Likes: The Federation justice system
Dislikes: Criminals
Pet Peeves or Gripes: None
Bad Habits or Vices: He is a workaholic. Will put in extremely long hours
Achievements: Becoming the Staff Judge Advocate for SBB and SBA

Illnesses: None
Strengths: Dedicated, hard-working, loyal
Weaknesses: Easily offended
Fears: He fears that something bad might happen to his wife and son. These fears were realized – sort of – when he was kidnapped by Ja’rod. As part of his torture to make him break, Winst was repeatedly told that his Callie and Thomas had been killed
Prejudices: Winst is very distrusting of private defense counsel. He doesn’t understand how someone can have the conscience, or lack thereof, to make money by defending criminals
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: T-shirt and jeans
Distinguishing Features: Tall, imposing
Pets: None
Friends: Commander Evan Cutler, Staff Judge Advocate for Starbase Bravo

Most Crucial Experience: The most crucial time in Michael's life was when decided to join JAG
Role Model: His role model is Colonel William Remey, USMC, the first uniformed Judge Advocate General of the United States Navy. He was responsible for shaping the US JAG Corps and its predecessor, the Federation JAG Corps
