Personal History

Joshua’s parents were the epitome of what his pet peeve is, they had resigned to a mediocre life, but one thing they would not allow to be mediocre was their only son; Joshua. The couple; Mary and George Williams, had lived on Earth all of their life. They met at the age of 16 and 17 respectively before they finished school, marrying not longer after that. Joshua’s parents led productive, but thoroughly indistinctive lives, in the public sector.

Joshua’s upbringing was very homely and caring. His parents may not have been Nobel peace prize winners, but they knew how to raise a child. From a young age Joshua had been an inquisitive person, always wanting to be involved in conversations or find out what was going on. Whenever he returns home on shoreleave for family parties his mother recounts the story, after a glass or five of wine, of one of the first family reunions they had when Joshua stomped around the room routinely barging into people’s discussion and demanding what was being discussed. Joshua believes that was where his curiosity stems from.

Throughout his school life Joshua was a natural at the sciences, not just biology, but chemistry and physics. His brain seemed to be a natural sponge for information pertaining to those topics. Though he was one of the jokers in his class, he did well in his exams and got good grades. Graduating high school, he and his best friend Paul Johnson decided to go travelling around various Alpha Quadrant hot spots before attending college. Joshua had already applied to study at one of the best British Medical Schools, not thinking of Star Fleet.

Their gap year had started, with the basic provisions they were set for their travels. They boarded a small transport vessel headed for Vulcan, the ship was run by civilians and it was, rough, to say the least and the low quality of the ship was evident and mid journey a breach occurred in the warp core. Another of the passengers was also on a sabbatical like Joshua and Paul, but he was a Star Fleet officer. He quickly took charge of the situation and suppressed the warp core breach with relative ease, but not before an EPS conduit ruptured in Paul’s face. Taking the brunt of the explosion Paul was instantly killed. Seeing death for the first time ran deep through Joshua, and with Paul being his only true best friend he didn’t know what to do. The transport signalled for a nearby Star Fleet to rendezvous with them.

The travelling Star Fleet officer left the transport ship for the vessel he knew for the journey back home and offered Joshua the chance to travel back with him. Joshua’s time on the vessel and his experience with the Star Fleet officer caused him to rethink his priorities in life. He had never considered entry to the Academy, favouring the chance for study medicine at a University, but his view changed over his journey back to Earth. During the journey he submitted a late entry for the Academy. It was not accepted instantly, and he was placed on a waiting list.

Arriving back at home to his parents and Paul’s devastated parents. He told his mother and father of his experience with the Star Fleet officer and ship and his change of mind to attend the Academy but was not expecting entry this academic year. The week after Paul’s memorial service he received his acceptance letter to the Academy.

Joshua’s attendance at the Academy was definitely the best time of his life, majoring in medical studies he was able to quench his thirst for medical knowledge but also train as an officer, like the one he met on the transport. Once he has finished his training he would be out in the stars, possibly helping others like Star Fleet had helped him before.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Xenobiology
Academy Minor(s): Genetics and Biochemistry
Hobbies and Pastimes: Swimming
Short-Term Goals: Establish a good working rapport with his fellow officers
Long-Term Goals: Become a member of the senior staff aboard a starship, preferable CMO.
Personality: is innately kind to all living beings; there has never been a person he has ever passed judgement on before getting to know them. Due to his kind personality it was a natural progression to go into the world of medicine where he was responsible to for the well being of others.

Joshua has a certain naivety about him. It can be seen as a progression from his kind hearted nature. He has an innate part of him that constantly pulls at his heart strings, over-riding logical explanations, causing him to be an eternal optimist. Many people say that he will change his view after leaving Earth.
Being an optimist, Joshua believes that all people have the capacity to surpass perceptions of themselves or those put on them by others. He loves people that aren’t willing to resign to a life of average proportion.

Sense of Humor: Joshua is very light hearted in his sense of humour, which can sometimes get him into trouble with his superiors while working. He was always one of the guys laughing at the back of class during school, or during labs, but would quickly stop when given the ‘look’ from his teachers. He loves a good joke. It is because of this jovial humour, and sometimes lack of focus, that has caused him to never achieve his full potential.
Phobias: Arachnophobia
Likes: Knowledge, his friends and family, swimming, people with faults and the odd glass of wine
Dislikes: Prejudices, know-it-alls
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who give up too easily.
Achievements: Gaining his medical degree.
Disappointments: Not working harder in his early years of academic study
Illnesses: Usual childhood illnesses.
Strengths: Medical decisiveness, ability to diffuse a tense situation.
Weaknesses: A sob story.
Fears: Incompetence and Infirmity. He has spent the majority of his current adult life studying medicine and he fears that he will reach a stage of his life where he will not have made a good enough contribution to the world of medicine and will have become too infirm to look after himself.
Prejudices: None.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Joshua dresses very casually, normally a pair of jeans, t-shirt and trainers/boots.
Distinguishing Features: Freckled.
Pets: None.
Friends: Paul Johnson (deceased). He has no other ‘best’ friend, but he has many people that he enjoys spending time with.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Seeing his best friend Paul die.
Best Time: His entire time at the Academy.
Most Crucial Experience: See best time.
Role Model: The Star Fleet Officer who diffused the situation on the transport vessel.
