Personal History

Leah was born and raised in the Irish countryside, along with her brother Eagan. Her and her family firmly believed in sustaining their Irish heritage, so the majority of their meals were homemade, stemming from their own personal garden filled with carrots, leeks, tomatoes, potatoes and cabbage. They obtained their supply of meats from local markets. They weren’t, however, opposed to modern technology and still used a replicator for the majority of their household needs.

As Leah grew up, she spent a lot of time people watching as a hobby. She would watch her family, her friends… Strangers in the market. Everyone. The human psyche fascinated her and after a while, she found she had an innate ability to read people’s emotions through their mannerisms and facial expressions, which led to her interest in becoming either a psychologist or a diplomat.

One day when she was twelve, she met a Betazoid woman who sat and people watched with her for hours while her mother worked. The woman instructed her on how to recognize different social cues and key body language quirks that helped Leah become more efficient in her ‘hobby’. It was the first time anyone had ever shown an interest in her favorite pastime and even encouraged her.

During her secondary education, Leah had gained her first real friend. Elessa Donovan, an educator and family friend whom she had known since she was a toddler, became her closest confidant and one of the few people outside of her family she trusted. She had encouraged Leah’s interest in studying human behavior, and even supplied her with reading material on the subject whenever she found it. Elessa was also the one who sparked her interest in reading paranormal fiction once she was old enough to appreciate (and comfortably read the subject matter). “Some of the best forbidden, and nearly lost-to-time delicacies of the ‘awakening’ era of romance,” Elessa had told her the first time she slipped her a few novels after class the day she turned 17, introducing her to authors such as Anne Rice, Laurell K Hamilton, and Christine Feehan. Thanks to Elessa, Leah had gained a love for reading.

When she began studying at University, her interests slowly began to lean towards the medical spectrum of the human condition, and she started focusing her studies on psychology and cognitive behavior. Then, shortly after her second year at University began, she gained an interest in joining Starfleet.

Her family fully supported her decision to join Starfleet, and the following year she was accepted into the Academy.

The first couple of years were rough at Starfleet Academy, finding that her hobby made the majority of people she met feel uneasy. She began to seclude herself around year two and focused on her academics, gaining praise and high grades within her courses, but realizing how hard it was for someone who could read people so easily to actually make friends. These were the formidable years where she had to teach herself how to balance what she discovered about others and what was socially acceptable to discuss in public. It wasn’t until she started her first course in Anthropology in her third year when she met Clara DeLune, a fellow Counselor in training, when she began to feel more comfortable with her own behavior. They would get together frequently and discuss theories on social behaviors and the nuances of such, and even sometimes take trips to the local hotspots and compare their observations of those around them over a few drinks. They quickly became best friends during her years at the Medical Academy, all the way until the present.

Long-Term Goals: Write a book about the nuances of behavior and how to interpret them in everyday life.
Personality: Curious and friendly. She enjoys conversation with new people, and finds it easy to interact and adapt to new situations.
Sense of Humor: Oddly enough, she can have a dirty mind, but she tries to keep it to herself. She can’t help but giggle at inappropriate humor. She also has a knack of picking up on sarcasm.
Phobias: Fire. Leah’s family home had burned down when she was a child, and since then has struggled to overcome her fear of the element.
Likes: Soft blankets, classical music, being around running water (rivers, waterfalls, and oceans), mojitos, and eclairs.
Dislikes: High pitched noises, overly obnoxious behavior, slapstick comedy, and dogs.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who habitually interrupt others, passive aggressive behavior, gossip.
Bad Habits or Vices: Humming to herself when she’s concentrating, chewing on her thumbnail, subconsciously organizing objects in front of her, even if it’s not her stuff.
Achievements: Perfect scores on her secondary education assessment tests, won first place during a murder mystery role play event held at University, talked a stranger down from suicide when she was 14 during a family trip to the Cliffs of Moher.

Strengths: Ability to recognize emotions in others, fast reader, quick reflexes.
Weaknesses: Procrastinates her own well-being (‘forgets’ to eat in lieu of a task she’s currently on, not drink enough water throughout the day, sleeps sporadically when she’s preoccupied), horrible with numbers and math, gets her feelings hurt more often than she’d care to admit.
Fears: Being alone, being the cause of someone’s death.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Her fear of fire came from a childhood tragedy where her father almost died from severe burns when their house caught ablaze in the middle of the night from a lightning storm. It was a freak accident, but it was the scariest night of her life as the family scrambled for safety.
Best Time: Spending a two month vacation with her friend Clara traveling the major cities of Europe during vacation between semesters at the Academy.
Most Crucial Experience: Her experience with The Betazoid woman solidified her resolve for her plans in the future, to become a psychologist.
Role Model: Elessa Donovan
