Personal History

Very little is known about the circumstances of Asher’s birth. Shortly after his birth, his father, Victor, brought him to Earth, where he grew up around his father, and his father’s parents.

No one ever discussed Asher’s mother, though, when he was old enough to understand, had told him his mother had died in childbirth.

From an early age, it was apparent he had a knack for building things, and this was encouraged by his grandparents. However, his father always seemed distant to him. He was always assured that he was just taking Asher’s mother’s death hard. Accepting the reason, Asher would continue to explore his talent.

In his early years of high school, Asher was continuing to excel at building things. He was well liked, but his home life kept him from attaching himself too much to friendship. This was due to his father’s further decline, as the man had begun drinking heavily and becoming abusive. Luckily for Asher, his grandparents protected him, especially when it came to Victor’s more violent swings.

However, something happened that would change Asher’s life forever when he turned 15. One evening while his grandparents were out, Victor had come home early, extremely drunk and violent. He turned his attention on Asher. Asher did his best to stave off the man, though the blows kept coming. After one good hit to the side of his head, Asher screamed out in pain and anger. This awoke an apparently dormant telepathy, the excess of which attacked Victor’s mind.

His grandparents had come home at that point, and took both Asher and Victor to the hospital. It was there that they decided to reveal to Asher that his mother had not died in childbirth, as they had originally told him. She had been a Betazoid who had tricked Asher’s father into falling for her, which resulted in Asher’s birth. However, her true motives were to ruin Victor, and so Victor had taken Asher away when he was a few days old. The experience had left Victor a broken man.

After the event, Asher began to see a Vulcan psychologist, in the hopes of learning to cope and control his new-found telepathy. With his telepathy being unlocked, Victor grew more distant from his son. When Asher was almost 17, the decision was made, with agreement from all parties, that Victor leave Asher in his grandparents’ full care and no longer have communication with Asher.

This caused a real blow to Asher emotionally. He distanced himself from most people, staying rather closed. He never let it affect his work, and he never let himself get to the low that his father had been. He instead delved deeper into his schoolwork, and took up Aikido and fencing as an outlet.

By the time he had graduated high school, he had his sights set on Star Fleet, taking his love of building things to apply for Structural Engineering. However, one thing kept him from immediately going: his telepathy issues. Since his telepathy had come out, he had progressively found it harder and harder to control, even with the help of his Vulcan psychologist.

After much debate, and talking with both the psychologist and his grandparents, Asher decided the best way to handle his telepathic issues was to have all his telepathic abilities blocked. As such, his psychologist called in a specialist by the name of Alianna. She and Asher hit it off very well as they went through the training and processes in order to block his telepathy. Because of their quick bond, their relationship developed into an affair.

After a brief time, however, they decided it mutually best to shift their relationship back to being professional. They finished the process, and Asher was relieved of his telepathy. This did, however, have a side effect. He could no longer be the target of telepathy, either. Once the process was all said and done, Alianna left, and Asher never saw her again.

With that part of his life now over, he concentrated fully on entering the Academy. He entered as he originally intended in Structural Engineering, minoring in Warp Theory. He excelled in his studies, and graduated at the top of his class. Once graduating, he was assigned to the USS Demeter, where he spent most of his career, moving up to Chief Engineer, eventually taking and passing the Command Course and attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After some time at that rank, he received a message from an old colleague, Lieutenant Commander Robert Simmons, asking if Asher would like to request a transfer to the USS Chin’toka to become Robert’s replacement.

Asher thought it would be a good opportunity to join a front-of-the-line Avenger class, and submitted the proper paperwork, being approved by Command when they received Robert’s resignation.

USS Chin'toka, CA-1375

Asher boarded the Chin'toka where he was able to meet with his department. He made sure two of his meetings were with Lieutenant Ballantyne and Midshipman Det. He requested that Ballantyne continue as the Assistant Chief Engineer, and promoted Det to Ensign. Shortly thereafter, they received their orders.

The Chin'toka welcomed Captain Deniz aboard, and their mission was to find out what happened to a Science team that the Captain had once led. The team had missed their normal check in time, and they were unable to be contacted.

The Chin'toka arrived, and, after some debate, an Away Team was sent down to the surface to check out the base of operations. Asher was a part of the team. Once planet side, Asher made his way to the Armadillo base along with the Chief Science Officer, Talion. There, he discovered logs from the team commander, and that they had left a few days prior to check out something in the mountains. Before the team had a chance to investigate further, they were recalled back to the Chin'toka, where another ship had arrived to relieve the Cruiser.

USS Gettysburg, CA-1863

Upon their return to Bravo, the Chin'toka was reassigned, and most of the crew were given transfers. Asher found out he was transferred to the USS Gettysburg, under the Command of Captain Tyra Crawford.
