Personal History

Buck grew up in the plains of Kansas. He never really left the small town he grew up in. He had a youth spent running through fields and playing sports like any other kid. Buck was an athlete in high school. He played water polo, field hockey and American football. He was always good at picking up on what people were about. He liked to try to figure people out. In a small town it’s pretty easy to do though. On Friday nights it was always the football field that had Buck and Joe's attention, but any other night of the week that they weren't playing as sport it was the local burger joint.

Being able to read people gave Buck a ‘one up’ on people all the time. He never seemed to get into much trouble and was generally considered a respectable young man. He decided after he graduated high school to attend Star Fleet Academy. This came from a desire to get out of the small and into the large. This decision was not so welcome by his parents and has caused a rift between them. Due to this Buck has not talked to his parents since he joined the Academy.

Buck advanced very quickly on his first assignment aboard the USS Enterprise. His DH, Karina Ptaka, taught him much and recommended him for Star Fleet's first Fast Track training program, which was for new up and coming officers who seemed to be a cut above the rest. Buck graduated first in his class and recieved his promotion to Lieutenant JG only months after graduating from the Academy.

While on Earth he was housed not a the Academy, but by the President in Exile of Carraya, Mirell. Mirell was a friend of Karina Ptaka's and had been requested by Karina to help Buck train his mind against torture. During this short time he began a very intimate relationship with her, much to the dismay of Mirell's grandfather and bodyguard. Buck was called away to duty shortly after his Graduation. The two of them though did have time to visit his parents, the first time he had seen them since he left for the Academy initially.

Buck returned to the Enterprise pretty much in time for it to go into space dock for retrofit and repair. During the transfer of command and ships to the USS Gettysburg, Karina fell ill and Buck was made Acting DH of Security until her return. Karina however was given another position more fitting to her abilities and Buck was eventually made full COS at the end of the mission when he achieved the rank of full Lieutenant.
