A warp signature is a change made to an area of space by the passage of a ship at warp that is detectable by sensors. The signature can be used to determine the recent presence of a ship, and often also its identity if the signature matches one in a known database.
Someone with enough engineering know-how can modify their ship’s warp signature to match that of another vessel, or can imprint a warp signature on a different vessel or installation.
