Personal History

Cenara grew up happy and well adjusted in a close knit family on the Bolian home world. Her family was content and she knew love and happiness as a child. While most Bolians shaved their head a great number of Bolians don’t shave their head. As Bolarus has grown in its membership within the Federation many Bolians feel that they must look and be more like other Federation citizens, thus heading shaving while still popular is being seen less frequent among the younger Bolians. The distinctive Bolian bifurcated ridge and blue skin make the Bolians stand out among the Alpha Quadrant races. For Cenara it meant that she needed to blend in better with the other species. Granted, yes the Deltans all shaved their heads, but they resemble a majority of the races of the Federation more closely than say the Andorians, Benzites and Bolians who all have varying shades of blue skin.

One of Cenara’s’ most painful memories was as a young child she had to stand by and watch her beloved co-mother die of Modentar Syndrome, a condition that slowly robs older Bolians of their memory, it is accompanied by skin lesions, that ooze a horrific yellowish red puss and a horrific odor, while robbing the Bolian of movement and finally death. Due to this horrific disease many Bolians embrace and accept the "Double Effect Principle” about euthanasia. To better understand this one needs to look to the Bolian Middle Ages, during this time period the Bolians developed the medical philosophy known as the "Double Effect Principle" about euthanasia. If one contracted a deadly disease and one knew that killing ones self was less painful for the victim of that disease, as well as the victims family then it was viewed as the right and moral thing to do, to spear ones family the agony of watching you suffer and die a most painful death. The obligation of seeing to it that the person dying killed them selves in a dignified manner in most cases fell to the oldest child of that person. It is a highly organized ceremony in which three doctors must agree that the patient’s condition is terminal and that the method of suicide is, clean and as free of mistakes as possible Many Bolians embrace the idea of a loved one dying in a state of peace and grace to remember their loved ones as strong and healthy.

This form of assisted suicide has the effect of relieving suffering but, it also has the effect of causing death, but what is easier for one to deal with, the idea that a loved one just laid down and went to sleep and never work up, or rather they died in pain and agony. Not to mention that in some cases the relatives of the terminally ill often felt bad about assisting their loved ones in killing themselves. The only problem with that was, as the Bolians became a warp faring race, they made contact with other races. As a result of that contact, new ideas, thoughts and medical skills and technology came to Bolarus, thus improving survival rates and bringing a better quality of life to the Bolian people. So, what was happening was when a loved one would kill themselves, it would seem a week or month later the government would announce that they now had a cure for your loved ones condition or disease? So, as more new races join the Federation and new ideas and technology come into the Federation the cycle of the "Double Effect Principle” still is an issue on Bolarus to this very day.

Cenara knew as a child that she wanted to be an Engineer. It was not uncommon for Cenara as a child to take apart her older brothers PADD’s, or her fathers computer and see what made it tick, often she did it at the most inopportune times for her family members, but she always managed to fix it or repair it. She knows technology like the back of her hand. Technology is her passion. Cenara had worked hard all her life in school and was an excellent student. She graduated top of her class in high school. So, what Cenara did was during her free time she took classes in things like medicine, having never forgotten the death of her co-mother. She also took history classes, science and other classes that she felt would broaden her education as much as possible, and this love of learning, a trait that she picked up from her mother would server her well in the future. Cenara had managed to gain a rather impressive educational background for someone so young. Cenara believed that having a varied educational background can help one be a better, doctor, engineer, lawyer or what ever, but she knew she had to be as educated and well rounded a student as possible if she had ever hoped of getting into Star Fleet. She knew she would be up against the best and brightest in the Alpha Quadrant, all hoping to gain entrance into Star Fleet Academy.

At last count her mother has eleven degree’s in various disciplines and not to be undone her father hold several degrees of his own ranging from Advanced Warp Theory, Stellar Cartography to Psychology, just to name a few. Even her twin brothers all hold degrees in one field or another. So, it was expected that Cenara would follow in their footsteps, at least academically. So, when Cenara came home and announced that she wanted to serve in Star Fleet, her family was surprised. Cenara’s parents were a little reluctant about their baby girl joining Star Fleet, as they already had one child serving in Star Fleet, but once they discussed the opportunities that were available to Cenara, how could they object? After all, Cenara’s co-father had relatives had been in Star Fleet and they served with pride and distinction. Not to mention the fact that when Cenara makes up her mind to do something, she does it.

What had tempered her passion and had driven her desire to be an Engineer even further than the love of technology was one year Cenara was on her way to Molet V for a much needed vacation. Molet V is perhaps one of the most beautiful planets on the Alpha Quadrant, a warm and tropical place with green sandy beaches, with the warmest blueish purple water she had ever seen. Cenara had booked passage on a Vulcan transport, the ship she was traveling on, answered a distress call from an Andorian transport ship. It seems that the Nausicaan’s had attacked the ship. The Captain of the Vulcan transport that she had been traveling on answered the distress call. The Captain having limited medical staff to treat the injured asked if any of his passengers had medical training, any medical training at all. Cenara had mentioned how she has some medical training, but not at a level to really be of much use to a medical / rescue mission. The Captain looked at her and stated that someone with a little medical training and knowledge is better than someone with no medical training and knowledge.

Cenara thought about that for a moment and agreed and decided she would help to the best of her abilities. Cenara and two other passengers, along with the Vulcan doctor and two nurses had transported over to the Andorian transport. Cenara made her way towards the engineering section of the ship in order to treat some badly burned crew members. As she made her way into engineering she could see how bad the damage was, smoke and small fires had erupted all over engineering, but she was looking for injured people and started scanning for life signs, she started making adjustments to her Tricorder, when it picked up two life signs heading her way.

Just as she finished scanning, two Nausicaan’s made there way into the Engineering Section. Cenara ducked behind a control panel and watched, hoping they would leave, so she could get back to looking for injured people. The Engineering section was filled with smoke form burning bulk heads and opti-cable. She could barely hear herself think over the shrieks of computer terminals and control station exploding in their final stages of death. As the smokes and flames had erupted more violently causing her lungs to burn with a slight sting as she breathed, the air was filled with a stench of burning bulk heads and optical cable hanging out from the ruptured E.P.S system and as luck would have it the automated fire suppression system had malfunctioned, causing the fires to burn uncontrollably. In the confusion a little Andorian girl who had become separated from her family, somehow wound up in this inferno in engineering, The little girl who couldn’t have been anymore than five or six years old ran around the corner and straight into the two Nausicaan’s who had come into engineering to see what they could steal. Cenara stepped out from behind her panel and was about to grab the child and take her to safety. but before Cenara could yell or even grab the little girl and take her out of harms way. The taller of the two Nausicaan’s had drawn his blade and in a flash he and impaled the little girl to a burning bulk head.

Cenara stood there for a moment as she couldn’t believe what she had just witnessed. How could they have been so heartless and cruel, even for Nausicaan’s that was the most cowardly act she had ever seen? Just then a claxon sounded pulling her out of her disbelief. That’s when she noticed that she was also about to be impaled by the same monster that who had only moments earlier stabbed the little girl. That’s when she heard the smaller of the two Nausicaan’s say, “Forget about her, this ship is about to explode, she is as good as dead.” as they ran laughing there way out of the engineering section.

The computer was issuing a warning that indicated that the blast shield was getting ready to come down and the ships automated system was getting ready to eject the warp core. “Warp Core, Breach in ten minutes.” said the computers synthetic voice that she had noticed had a very odd Andorian accent to it. During the attack the Nausicaan’s had damaged the ships warp core, and it could blow at any moment. Franticly Cenara tapped her communicator that the Doctor had given her incase she need assistance, but due to the radiation in engineering it was not working. She was the only one in engineering, as all the crew was either dead or missing. Cenara was faced with the most difficult decision she would ever have to make. Should she treat the little girl and maybe escape, only to have the ship explode, killing her, the little girl and the rest of the crew and the passengers of the Andorian transport, as well as the crew and passengers of the Vulcan transport in a warp core breach, or should she repair the warp core and let the little girl die, while everyone else live. Cenara was neither an Engineer, nor a Doctor, but she had to make a choice. She had to do something. Save one or save many.

The Klaxon kept giving the audible count down of when the warp core breach was eminent. Cenara was glad that she had taken all those engineering classes and knew her way around a warp core. Cenara knew she had the skills to slow down the breach. However, Cenara could not fix the damaged warp core by herself. Tears started to streamed down her face as she made her way over to the center console and began making adjustments and checking read out. Her finger flew from one system to the next, checking the damage and trying her best to find the quickest solution possible. She knew she had to get the matter and anti-matter back into alignment, but with her being the only one in engineering she couldn’t do it, she began pulling burnt out and damaged circuits from damaged command & control systems, she started to repair neural-gel packs and replaced damaged isolinear chips, as well as other engineering systems. She started rerouting circuit pathways and establishing new protocols to control the anti-matter flow and sealing the dilithium chamber. This was only a quick stop gap measure until an Engineering team could arrive to make the necessary repairs. Cenara exited the engineering section to an area with less radiation. She tapped her communicator and reported her situation to the Vulcans. Almost instantly repair crews began arriving in the engineering section. To this day she never learned the name of that little Andorian Girl.

On Star date 21109.14 Cenara returned from a medical leave of absence. It was a rather odd course of events. The Titan had been involved in a rescue mission on star date 21104.27, when Cenara had received orders from an Admiral at Star Fleet medical ordering her to Feldora V in the Kodrea system. He orders had been and report to Captain Bryson of the U.S.S. Keystone.

Cenara had heard of the Keystone and the Kodrea system was that far from the Titan’s current location. Once Cenara got the Captains permission to leave the Titan she prepared the runabout and set course for the Kodrea system. They Kodrea system was rumored to have rich deposits of Dilithium, Diamonds and other valuable minerals that the Federation desperately wanted and needed.

Cenara had to admit she was truly puzzled why Star Fleet Medical had requested an Engineer be sent there, but she was first and foremost a Star Fleet Officer and she did as she was ordered.

The trip took just under 20 hours at maximum warp, the trip wasn’t entirely unpleasant. It gave Cenara an opportunity to relax and listen to some music and get caught up on a few racy dare one even say trashy romance novels set in the early days of space travel. When supposedly the men and women did nothing except make love during long interstellar flights, the only problem with that idea was that by the time they reached their destination, a space craft that was built for say four people would be bursting at the seams by the time it reached a planet that took 75 years traveling at sub-light speed; but Cenara didn’t care they were fun reads.

When Cenara finally reached the Kodrea system, she landed on the keystone and was hustled in to the ships sickbay. There she met Captain Bryson and a Vulcan doctor who had informed Cenara that they had some patient that needed a blood transfusion and that only her blood was capable of saving these patients.

As it turned out the patients that needed the blood platelets and blood proteins that were found in Bolian blood was the ruling family of Feldora V. As it turned out, the Feldorian ruling family was not native to Feldora, while related to the Feldorians, they were not pure Feldorians, they were distant cousins and no one knew the exact origins of the ruling family. It seemed that fate was not on their side, as the rest of the Feldorians lacked the necessary blood proteins and platelets needs for them to reproduce.

It seems that the Ruling Family suffered from a rare blood disease, that made it in capable of the male’s to successfully reproduce and according to Feldorian law only males can rule, as the last of the males in ruling family was getting on in years and no future male heirs could be produced, it would have brought political chaos, even anarchy to the entire Feldorian Expanse. Star Fleet wanted and needed the mining rights to the vast deposits of Dilithium.

Cenara had to admit this was in interesting problem, even a scary one. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to be a mother to an entire civilization, as it were. It was kind of weird that a part of he would live on in future generations of Feldorians, well at least in the ruling family. Cenara knew that the Federation needed the rich mineral deposits that the Feldorians had to offer and if they could secure the mining rights or even convince the Feldorians to join the Federation it would really help.

The medical procedure was relatively easy, they would isolate the proteins, enzymes and platelets and replicate them, and that’s about as far as Cenara could follow, she was an Engineer after all, not a doctor. She also knew how important the Dilithium was to the Federation. The Feldorians had a great deal to off the Federation, men, materials and they were located close to a vital trade route. After, giving it some thought and reflected on the moral and ethical implications of her decision she agreed to help.

The Keystones medical staff ran several tests on her and took the necessary blood samples and began the procedure on the Feldorians. Cenara had expected to leave as soon as the blood was taken, but the replicators had problems replicating Bolian blood. Cenara spent three months on the Keystone, to ensure that the procedure took and that at least one of the females of the Feldorian Ruling Family actually conceived a health male heir for the males of the ruling family and they wanted to make sure that the necessary proteins, enzymes and blood platelets were in fact present in the unborn children.

Once it was determined that the unborn males were capable of successful reproduction, in the respect that the necessary proteins, enzymes and blood platelets were in fact now part of their D.N.A. and that they would be able to pass those traits on to future generations Cenara was able to leave, but somehow she felt as if she left a permanent mark on these people and in her opinion it was a great addition to that race, if she did say so herself.

Cenara like all Bolians are, for the most part, one of the most sociable races in the UFP. Bolian culture centers around group interaction, being part of the team, so individual Bolians also tend to be very social animals that prefer to work in groups or teams rather than individually and Cenara is no exception. Bolians also regard performing their duties as a matter of honor. Cenara like all Bolians take great pride when they perform well, but do not suffer from the same level of shame for failure and dishonor that other honor-driven races do. Rather, the Bolian simply views it as a learning experience so that if they should find themselves in that situation is again, they will succeed.
Dislikes: Cenara hates cowards, liars, and people who feel they must put other people down, just to build themselves up. Also, dislikes Klingons as she feels that their tendency towards violence goes against the very principles of what the Federation stands for and does not understand why the Federation has an alliance, or even deals with them.
