Personal History

Veilro was born a slave to slave parents on the Tenctonese homeworld in the Gamma Quadrant, only a few years before the second Dominion War.

During his adolescence, Veilro and 12 of his siblings were aboard the same slave ship, where they were subjected to conditions which were unfit for any lifeform. They worked long hours, had unsanitary conditions, and there were fights aboard ship for everything including food. Veilro was one of the stronger members of his section and was able to help provide for at least some of his siblings and himself.

After the crash, and the subsequent protection by the Federation, Veilro and his siblings (those that had survived) were reunited. There were 9 of them in all remaining, plus whatever was left back on the homeworld in the Gamma Quadrant. He has maintained contact with them through the years, even after he left New Angeles.

Growing up on New Angeles and among his people, mixed with others (mostly human) was a trying experience of Veilro. He spent most of his time with his own, only learning about other cultures (and their languages) when he was required to. He fell in love with a beautiful female (Linnaum) and they practice-mated several times over a number of years. They never completed a full bond, but they considered themselves mostly exclusive to one another.

Veilro was recruited to Star Fleet by Lieutenant Junior Grade Derrick Hiram Ulysses Grant, when Grant was assigned to New Angeles for six months during his early career. A Star Fleet Security officer assigned to the diplomatic corps, Grant recruited Veilro initially as an ‘asset’, as Grant was unofficially assigned there by SF:Intelligence to uncover a ring of weapons smugglers believed to be involved with the Cardassians. This was nearly 20 years ago. Vielro was then sent through boot camp to be a Star Fleet maintenance crewman on New Angeles at the base there.

While there, he spent a lot of time in night classes (when he wasn’t “on assignment”), and learned a lot about Star Fleet engineering. He moved through the enlisted ranks and began to take a greater interest in the galaxy around him.

During this time he was involved in [REDACTED] which led him to a nearby star system. This inspired an interest in exploring, much more than most Tenctonese who were happy to settle down on a world of their own.

Then he told his mate that he wanted to explore the stars. She’d known for a while that he was fascinated with that which was beyond New Angeles, and although he’d spent most of his time among other Tenctonese and not other species, it was obvious his curiosity was growing.

She refused to leave, and he felt an almost instinctive compulsion to go.

He left New Angeles 14 years ago and has never returned.

His first order of business after leaving the homeworld was to enroll in OCS with Star Fleet, and six months later he was granted the rank of Ensign. He was put into several low-profile jobs around the quadrant, most of them interestingly near the Romulan border, an area where the Tenctonese had never before gone. Most of his missions were officially very mundane but Star Fleet Intelligence often had him performing specialised tasks. He was directly involved in the [REDACTED] and was silently decorated for it.

Veilro moved through the ranks slowly, taking the full 14 years to get to where he is today.

He was recently assigned as an Engineer (and observer for SF:I) on Yadalla Prime. He arrived three months before the rebellion started.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Star Fleet Engineering Procedures; Life Support Systems
Academy Minor(s): Star Fleet Administration; Basic Piloting; Transporter Operations; Star Fleet [REDACTED] Special Training.
Hobbies and Pastimes: Walks under a natural sun--any natural sun really; erotic holoprograms.
Short-Term Goals: To find a place where he can contribute and fit in, and make friends.
Long-Term Goals: To someday make it back to the homeworld to reconnect with his parents and some of his siblings who are still there.
Personality: Fun, generally rather light. Seems as though he’s not serious even when he is.
Sense of Humor: Quirky, sometimes inappropriate due to his not fully understanding human expression.
Phobias: Darkness. He never stays where it’s completely dark. He even sleeps in a room which is fully lit.
Likes: Females, especially human ones. He has yet to mate outside his own species, but is very interested in doing so.
Dislikes: People who fail to follow the rules and obey orders.
Achievements: He is the first Tenctonese to have gone this far from the wormhole. While others have been involved with Star Fleet, they have always worked in or near the New Angeles system.
Disappointments: The one person he is seriously interested in romantically would not leave New Angeles, and so he doesn’t get to see her.
Illnesses: Apparently Tenctonese are very susceptible to Angosian Summer Flu. Being around an Angosian who is carrying, even if not symptomatic, can put him in bed with severe symptoms.
Strengths: Ability to follow protocol and orders to the letter. Improvisation but within realistic limits.
Weaknesses: Doesn’t always take the initiative, still learning how to interpret what others say to him so sometimes he misunderstands something serious as a joke, and sometimes misunderstands a joke as a serious statement.
Fears: DARKNESS!
Prejudices: Cardassians, Breen, Jem'Hadar, Vorta... Founders... Klingons... pretty much anyone who is overtly aggressive, sneaky, or hostile.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Something comfortable, loose-fitting, usually light colors. Looks almost pajama-like to many humans. Open shoes or bare feet preferred.
Distinguishing Features: Spots!
Pets: None
Friends: Several back no New Angeles.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Crashing on New Angeles and finding out that he’d likely never be able to go home.
Best Time: Now. Here. It’s much better than being a slave to the Dominion.
Most Crucial Experience: Crashing on New Angeles and finding out that he’d likely never be able to go home!
Role Model: None
