Personal History

Early Life

Shiso wasn’t born into the greatest life, even though her family was doing well enough within the Orion Syndicate. However, that fact wouldn’t unveil itself until her fourteenth birthday. It was time to enter the family business as she came of age, but in a cruel twist of fate Shiso learned she was somewhat a genetic anomaly that greatly hindered her.

Orion females were well known for their pheromones that made them extremely hard to resist, and could even gain them power over those affected. However, Shiso’s pheromones were almost nonexistent, and her family wasn’t about to risk any part of their business by relying solely on her looks as she wouldn’t be biologically influencing anyone. From that moment on, Shiso experienced her family growing more distant as she’d officially became the black sheep.

Over the next year, the familial relationship continued to sour and there were times that Shiso felt like she was only slightly better off than the slaves her family bought and sold. In addition, in the back of her mind Shiso knew it was only a matter of time before she would be subjected to that same life. The writing was on the wall, and while the family went off-world for a vacation she managed to slip away without being caught. Having run away, she believed it was doubtful that anyone would come looking for her.

Even as a teenager, Shiso knew if the Syndicate wanted her back no stone would be left unturned. The smartest course of action was to avoid people all together and that’s how Shiso lived for several weeks. She’d barely eaten during that time but managed to not be found. Although that was simply because there wasn’t any profit to be made by sending thugs to bring her back. Wandering aimlessly, Shiso inadvertently found her way into a nearby town.

Without any money, or the power of pheromones, Shiso was unable to quiet her growling stomach. Almost everyone she met didn’t seem to take any pity on the young Orion and Shiso started to think she was barking up the wrong tree. One individual, a Human wearing a Star Fleet uniform, couldn’t just stand by with the suffering of a teenager. Shiso had grown up being taught to not trust Star Fleeters, but knowing how much her family had changed their attitudes toward her led her to accepting the Lieutenant’s help, even though she was initially reluctant.

Even as her attitude about someone from the Federation was becoming more positive, Shiso didn’t open up about her family. As Lieutenant David Vega was dealing with the teenager’s seeming unwillingness to return to her family, he knew it wouldn’t be a particularly good idea to leave her to fend for herself all alone. From that moment, Shiso became a member of a new family, but still refused to speak about her biological one.

Over the next two years, Shiso learned what having people that actually cared about her meant. Experiencing that love made it harder to focus on what her life used to be like, and Shiso pushed aspects about her heritage away as it did nothing but disgusted her. The biggest change she undertook was forgoing her birth name by adopting a new one, in favor of the man that saved her. On that day Shiso ceased to exist, and Victoria Vega was born.

Starfleet Academy

Victoria had learned of all the good Star Fleet had accomplished through the lens of David. Knowing from her personal experience, that a member of Star Fleet unlocked her own potential it was something that Victoria wanted to impart on someone else. It was the very least she could do. Despite David Vega being her guardian, Victoria wasn’t technically a Federation citizen. However, realizing Victoria wish to join the Academy, David helped endorse her application.

While she was excited to join Star Fleet, one harsh reality smacked her. Despite her pheromone production being negligible, Victoria was still required to undergo medical injections that would suppress them, no differently than if she had been born normally. It was an inconvenience, but only because she’d tried to continuously forget that she’d been born Orion. Although, it wasn’t like she was treated any differently apart from that so Victoria managed.

Originally, Victoria’s plan had been to secure herself a position within the security field, however during the first year at the Academy she discovered her scores were slightly higher for tactical. Feeling distraught, because she felt like it was necessary to follow David’s footsteps, Victoria eventually found her place as a future tactical officer. As David mentioned to her, the department wasn’t the biggest part in whether someone could make a difference, or not, on another.

Despite having primary training within tactical, Victoria figured it wouldn’t hurt receiving security training as well. There was a little overlap between the two, and she figured not only would she be honoring the man that gave her a new life, but it could also make her a better officer. Graduating as a new officer within the fleet, all Victoria could hope for would to be assigned somewhere she could make a difference.

USS Charon

Victoria’s first assignment out of the Academy was the USS Charon. She’d heard through the rumor mill that being posted to that particular ship might not be a good move for her as it pertained to her career. Having just gone through two back-to-back mission failures, with the last one resulting in the death of its captain, there seemed to be some credence to what Victoria had heard.

Even if fighting her posting were possible, it wouldn’t be the first choice that Victoria would take. The first course of action would be to determine whether or not the curse was actually true. It wouldn’t look good on her as a Star Fleet Officer if she fled at the first alleged red flag. If Victoria were to try and request a transfer, she wanted to make sure there was no other choice first.

That assessment would begin as the Charon made its way to the Vinex system for Victoria’s first official mission within Star Fleet. From what Victoria gathered during her time on the Bridge, Star Fleet had detected another ship within that system. However, while the Charon was in orbit of Vinex III, the scans didn’t support that assumption and made her wonder if someone had been pulling their leg.

As things progressed, more evidence that confirmed that the Charon was a cursed ship surfaced. While attempting to launch a second probe, there was an incident that caused a failure in the firing sequence. This caused the tube to be temporarily unusable due to the jam, and this was compounded by the fact that communications with the Away Team on the planet were being disrupted.

The most difficult part of the mission was attempting to find the needle in a haystack that had been apparently left for the Charon to find. For her first true duty shift on the Bridge, Victoria felt as though she hadn’t presented herself into the brightest light to her superiors. With all of her scans of the Vinex system turning up short, she saw it as a failure and presumed that her command team believed the same.

After the mission, things seemed to go from bad to worse. During a late-night workout in the Charon’s gym, Victoria had the unfortunate experience in being unwittingly entangled in an incident. With a sparring session between Lieutenant Lincoln and Commander Pond seemingly gone bad, Victoria believed she had a responsibility to bring it to an end. Despite her initial attempts to bring the issue to a conclusion using her words, Victoria fell flat on her face.

Everything changed when Pond made it seem like Lincoln was trying to kill her with his bare hands. Perhaps it had been nothing but an over-exaggeration, but considering how unwavering Lincoln had seemed it wasn’t worth the risk of ignoring the potential threat. At gunpoint, but without firing a shot, Victoria managed to bring the fight to an end.

However, it had the unfortunate side effect of painting her as the villain. In the heat of the moment, it seemed as though it were the only option to help safeguard a fellow crewmates life. In the aftermath, all Victoria wanted to do was forget the incident after all the paperwork had been filed. All she’d ever wanted was to help others, but it seemed as though sometimes that was a great mistake. In an attempt to better prevent another incident where she’d be the potential bad guy, Victoria grew cold and distant from others. It would be better to try and be as calculating as possible versus growing attached to others, to make decisions.

Despite her negative experiences, Victoria was able to proceed further in her career. Whether it was simply because of time served or that she’d actually impressed her superiors, she couldn’t say for sure. Regardless, the young woman had seemingly earned a promotion to Ensign.

Without a Home

Despite receiving another promotion, Victoria felt extremely useless as it seemed as though Starfleet had effectively grounded her. Even as a junior Lieutenant, Victoria wasn't able to determine why she'd been recalled from the proverbial front lines. As the days dragged on, she couldn't help but wonder if it was simply due to her being Orion, even if she didn't have any concrete proof to prove that.

Regardless of the actual reasons, Victoria knew she would need to work on improving herself. While she anticipated being more well-rounded in her tactical abilities could lead Starfleet to believe grounding her was a mistake, the young woman was equally unaware that her not letting people in was doing more harm than good. It wasn't exactly the easiest of times, but Victoria knew she would need to prove herself, once again.

Victoria's time as a free agent was set to come to an end, as transfer orders had been issued for her to report to the Aquila. That required transportation to Deep Space 9 to rendezvous with her new ship, as they were scheduled to be at the station. However, her transport vessel arrived at the station later than expected, and the Aquila had departed without her leaving her to await the ship to return from its mission into the Gamma Quadrant. However, despite the Aquila’s return, new orders were issued for Victoria to report to the Philadelphia.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Tactical
Academy Minor(s): Security
Hobbies and Pastimes: As her childhood wasn’t particularly enjoyable, Victoria never really got into anything she finds ‘fun’.
Short-Term Goals: To succeed on her first mission on duty, and to make David proud.
Long-Term Goals: Victoria wants to truly separate from her Orion heritage, but she knows that’s a significant challenge as there will always be reminders.
Personality: After the Charon gym incident, Victoria isn’t near as friendly as she’d been before. She’s not rude, but doesn’t go out of her way to make friendships.
Sense of Humor: Victoria doesn’t consider herself much of a jokester but believes she can hold her own.
Phobias: Despite being as far as possible from the family business, Victoria is worried about losing her freedom once again.
Likes: Victoria likes the new life she has, and just about anyone that’s supportive of both her and others.
Dislikes: Victoria isn’t a fan of others that put another down, for little or no reason.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Victoria can get peeved when someone believes she no different than someone from within the Syndicate.
Bad Habits or Vices: Victoria has a bad habit of being a little bit more defensive whenever her heritage it brought up. While some believe a heritage should be honored, it’s not something she believes in personally.
Achievements: Victoria considers getting accepted to the Academy and managing to graduate near the top of her field to be one of her greatest achievements she’s accomplished so far.
Disappointments: While not something she’d openly admit, Victoria is disappointed that she seemingly failed her biological family. Even though it wasn’t something she could control, she’s used that disappoint to try and make herself a better individual.
Illnesses: Victoria suffers from a biological defect that highly limited her ability to produce pheromones. Despite this, she still undergoes standard injections to suppress them, per Star Fleet regulations.
Strengths: Victoria believes her strengths come from the support of others. It wasn’t something she experienced growing up, but when others eventually supported her she felt like nothing was impossible.
Weaknesses: While Victoria doesn’t believe she has and weaknesses, a good chunk of Orion society would call her weak because of her lack of proper pheromones.
Fears: Victoria fears that somehow, someday, the Orion Syndicate will come looking for her after all these years and send her to the slavery life she was original headed for.
Prejudices: Victoria has a strong hatred towards Orion society, because of her experiences. Living within the Federation only strengthened that hatred due to her seeing how barbaric it was, in comparison to her new life.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: With her childhood, Victoria elects to wear more conservative clothing. Although, since joining Star Fleet she typically wears standard issue stuff.
Distinguishing Features: Other than her green skin, Victoria isn’t that distinguishable from most other individuals.
Pets: None
Friends: None, but only because she hasn’t allowed herself to truly open up to anyone.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: The day Victoria’s biological family started treating her like she was basically nothing was the hardest day of her life. As a young teenager, she didn’t truly understand what was going on and their new horrible treatment made things that much worse
Best Time: As of yet, Victoria’s greatest memory is graduating from the Academy. It’s the start of her whole new life of actually achieving something.
Most Crucial Experience: The day she was rescued by Lieutenant David Vega was the most impactful. Victoria believes had he not made the effort to save her, there’d be no telling what kind of downward spiral she’d had found herself in.
Role Model: Victoria looks up to her parental guardian, David Vega. She joined Star Fleet in part because of him, and wishes to bring honor to the new life he provided for her.
